http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/11/30/cenk_uygur_praises_trump_for_carrier_deal_obama_would_never_have_done_it.htmlHe closes with:
Threaten their government contracts? Yes, you threaten their government contracts. That's called being strong!
So I told you there would be some small upsides to Donald Trump winning, because at least he is strong. There are a thousand downsides and we have a thousand videos to talk about those. But we have to give credit where credit is due today. They got this deal done, and not only will it look great... but it actually saved a thousand American jobs.
Strength, it matters. It isn't unsophisticated to talk about strength. It is smart...
Democrats, as usual, you ought to be embarrassed.
Clown.

(7,113 posts)Read Cenk's bio on Wiki. He was a GOP activist until the Clinton impeachment trials, when, he said, the GOP's unfair treatment of BC made him decide he was with the wrong party. How odd, since he never misses a chance to lambaste Bill & Hillary, both personally and politically.
Obviously, Cenk presents himself as a far-left progressive, but it seems he uses that stance to attack Obama and other leading Dems just as vigorously as do GOPers, if not more so. Perhaps that's why his show on MSNBC was so short-lived. I heard complaints that if you want to hear someone rag on Obama constantly, then you may as well watch Fox News.
For those reasons, I strongly suspect he's a GOPer who only pretends to be a progressive to sneak his anti-Dem screeds past our defenses.

(24,450 posts)That would be a great way for Democrats to frame it BTW. He's promising them not only tax incentives (which has been a fairly common practice by most politicians, albeit wrong IMHO) but reportedly also regulatory relief as well. This could become a big mess if this is how Don the Con decides to save manufacturing jobs and "Making America Great". Incidentally, there are a lot of unanswered questions about the deal (Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly is already questioning it) and any "deals" that Don the Con makes are surely not going to benefit Unions or progressives. Nobody on the left should be praising the deal until we find out more about it. I doubt that we will find much we like about it in the end.

(86,013 posts)...Trump said he'd solve the problem of outsourcing by taxing those companies at 35%. He said this several times during the campaign.
Instead, what he's done here is use Pence's lame-duck governorship to bribe the company into keeping 1000 out of 2000 jobs planned to go to Mexico in the state. Indiana taxpayers will foot the $700,000 tax break the company gets for, essentially, sending 1000 jobs out of the country, and Trump and Pence get a photo-op where they'll claim they saved something.
Uygur and the rest of the clowns praising this stunt ought to be ashamed, especially if they've been calling themselves 'free-market' republicans.

(65,319 posts)1000 jobs not moved to a low employment cost country for $700k? The numbers don't make sense. $700 per year per person at around 2100 hours worked each, saves them 33.3 cents per hour. I don't believe they did this for $700k.
Either they were never actually going to move all those jobs or the number is WAY higher than $700k
beaglelover
(3,496 posts)away their contracts and not include them in future bids. That's a large part of why those jobs are staying in the USA now.

(65,319 posts)Come on, BL.That would mean that the president elect is admittedly committing economic blackmail against a US company? And then admit it publicly?
Too convenient for me.

(86,013 posts)...all that we really see is a $70m bribe, sweetened with federal contracts and less than half of the jobs said to be headed to Mexico were 'saved.' Presumably, 1000 or so are headed to Mexico. The company just got rewarded for that.
If he's going to penalize companies for moving jobs overseas, he should get a law on the books. Even if he actually participates in that effort (beyond promises in a campaign), this will remain a typical bought-and-paid stunt by Trump.

In his college and law school years, Uygur espoused socially conservative views. He wrote a column in The Daily Pennsylvanian criticizing Penn's practice of affirmative action.[10] He supported the pro-life position on the abortion issue, criticized feminism, and argued that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was treated unjustly during his Senate confirmation hearings.[15|

(5,644 posts)(what exactly was the devil in the details, and brushed off so casually.) and he added that nobody will remember that in the end. And he called Obama, 'weak'.
What did Cenk say when Obama saved the car industry when everybody, everybody was telling Obama that it would be a lost cause to save the industry. Did Cenk still consider Obama to be weak?
Obama always looked at things critically, and not jump to the first thing that came to mind (like the Twitter king).

(100,118 posts)The only that benefit from this "deal" is Carrier - their CEO and board of directors, who I'm sure will get very generous bonuses out of this. It's an extremely terrible deal all the way around. 1200 jobs are still lost. But it makes Trump look good for a minute, so who cares?

(9,350 posts)If President Obama had made this deal he would have been criticized for having completed a horrible deal. The main stream media would have most likely pointed out that more jobs are leaving the United States than are staying in the United States. They would have also pointed out that Carrier was given tax incentives in order to keep the jobs in the Unites States.
The Fox News crowd, which is supposedly cheering this Trump deal, has in the past criticized President Obama for involving the government in the free market would have kept to that line of thinking. They would have also claim President Obama was propping up a union instead of allowing it to fail as it rightfully should. Media Matters is reporting that many of the same Fox News figures who are now praising Donald Trump for completing this Carrier deal, claimed, in 2009, that President Obama was bullying business interests in the United States. They would have said the same thing if President Obama had completed this deal.
