I did sign up to monitor the recount.

(3,194 posts)Sadly though, we're not, so I fully expect the board to prevent the recount.
I hope there is a large public presence vocalizing their support for the recount, but fear that in the end, it won't matter much.
You see, our leaders and the media will tell us how important our votes are, but when it comes to actually verifying them, to confirm accuracy, it's too big a hassle.
It's not who votes, it's who counts the votes.

(22,165 posts)... percentage based vs number of votes based (2000 votes ...???)

(3,194 posts)Hillary must overturn 3 states. trump only has to prevent 1 from slipping. It doesn't matter which one. Obviously Michigan is the closest, so it probably is of greatest concern to him.

(28,876 posts)The chair is a Democrat.

(3,194 posts)I have little faith that the Democrats will both vote in favor of the recount.
I have ZERO doubt the repubs will vote against it. They never waver. Democrats on the other hand.
Best I see happening is 2-2 vote. Any idea what that means?

(28,876 posts)But I don't know about a tie with the objection. Can't find anything.

(158 posts)Given any problems getting a formal statewide recount, individual citizens might be able to count ballots. As Optical Scan machines read a ballot, they capture an anonymous image of it.
Use a notarized FOIA request to election officials demanding the images. The response could be cooperation, outright denial (for true reasons or not) and/or dragging it out, so if possible, go in person, taking at least two brand-new, still-wrapped flash drives to download the files. Count the votes & place into a spreadsheet for tracking.

1. National map: click on Michigan. {Clicking on a county gets its info.} Scroll to "Search Equipment" dropdowns in lower left. Select Michigan, "Optical Scan" & 2016, and SEARCH.
https://www.verifiedvoting.org/verifier/#year/2016/state/26
2. See the 2-page list of Michigan counties' usage of which makes and various models of Optical Scan machines = ES&S {Elections Systems & Software}, Premier/Diebold, Sequoia. Go to bottom left, pick Michigan, 2016 & "SEARCH".
3. Explore "Security Concerns" & "Important Info" for those Optical Scan models used in Michigan: in right-hand column, scroll down & select each one in turn to see their vulnerabilities.

(9,090 posts)MSU 11 and UM 7 support 18 limbaugh stations. the universities have no excuse for not looking for apolitical alternatives to broadcast sports on.
like limbaugh stations everywhere those are ridiculing the recount effort, intimidating recount officials trying to do the right thing and enabling republicans trying to obstruct the recount. the elected officials in those states depend heavily on those stations. the local blowhards on those stations may be getting very loud and irrational in their objections.
the mere possibility that those stations might lose that ability to use the school brand to attract advertising revenue and may have to find alternative programming will totally disrupt the republican political machine in that state. and now is the time to do that.
penn state supports 11 limbaugh stations, and wisconsin 5.
dems have to stop allowing publicly funded universities support trump like that
Boycott every business w/ads on Trump radio, protest 88 unis, get House and Senate in 2 years.

(10,828 posts)There's something very hinky about all of this. Why send a 36-page legal argument against recounts if you were confident of the tally? And the main reason? Too onerous to the taxpayer although Jill Stein has raised private funds/donations to mitigate the cost. Wisconsin's initial cost estimate doubled once the recount was a reality. Something rotten in Trump Tower and RNC headquarters if you ask me.
Trump himself shouted out the projection: 'It's rigged. folks. It's all rigged.'
He just neglected to say for whom the rigging benefitted.
The whole thing is sickening. Sorry, but I do not buy that a candidate who received 2.5 million more votes is deemed the loser, while the Trumpanzee and his zookeepers are running around the country on a victory tour.
God help us all.
