I served for 29 years both as enlisted up to CPO and then as a Mustang Officer in the Navy.

One of the reasons for the 7 year waiting period for Flag Officers and other Officers to be appointed as SECDEF is to ensure there is less of a chance that they are able to carry out vendettas against currently serving Flag and Senior Officers...and to ensure that promotions and orders to prominent commands and positions aren't just given to cronies of the current SECDEF.

Want to turn our military into Turkey's military quickly? Grab a currently, or close to currently, serving Flag Officer, and then let them influence Flag Officer promotions as the SECDEF.

This is madness!!!

Watch what happens. Any current Flag Officer that has had run-ins with Mattis will drop their retirement papers in a heartbeat if he is confirmed as SECDEF.
