(4,340 posts)While I think we should have more transparency, we still have to fight republican efforts to destroy us over everything and anything. It really pisses me off that it has to come to this.

(11,304 posts)Bush Administration. If things in this report get out it could hurt alot of undercover people. Issa doesn't care about that. To him it's let hang the president. Find something anything to get him. Even some republicans want Issa to back off. Their hands aren't to clean either. On the other hand I do think we don't need to hurt our undercover people.

(26,507 posts)that it implicates the Bush Administration and the Repugs. Perhaps just wishful thinking.

(731 posts)1. If BUSH had did an executive order to override congress similar to this, what would be your reaction.
2. If this implicates the BUSH ADMINISTRATION why wouldn't they want to disclose the information?
1. We would be on this like flies on crap. The outrage and calls for impeachment would be thunderous. Because I remember Bush doing similar things and that being the reaction here.
2. Same reason as why they don't prosecute W for war crimes. Because Democrats are implicated as well.

(93 posts): exemption from legally enforced disclosure of communications within the executive branch of government when such disclosure would adversely affect the functions and decision-making processes of the executive branch

The implication being that this thing goes all the way to the top.
This is not a good thing.

(1,067 posts)Presidents protect each other regardless of the political party. As prior posters had said this may involve some very deep undercover operations and the release of said information could endanger those people. While I do not agree with the abuse of Executive Privilege is it necessary that the president regardless of party be able to have discussions that involve the covert operations as well as discussing issues that may walk a the line of legality. These discussions should not be subject to the whims of congress, otherwise people will not give their advice freely if they feel they could appear before congress.

(24,957 posts)I don't offhand have any reason to believe that anything bad is going on. OTOH Issa could be asking for information that he shouldn't be asking for too, in which case President Obama would be well within his authority to withhold such information.
