White man who gunned down black ex-NFL player in road rage case released without charges

White man who gunned down black ex-NFL player in road rage case released without charges
Travis Gettys 02 DEC 2016 AT 10:29 ET

A man who shot and killed a former NFL player during an apparent road rage incident has been released without charges.

Joe McKnight, a former New Orleans high school star, was shot dead about 3 p.m. Thursday during an argument at an intersection in Terrytown, reported The Times-Picayune.

A witness said she saw a man, later identified as 54-year-old Ronald Gasser, yelling at the 28-year-old McKnight, who was attempting to apologize.

Witnesses said Gasser, who is white, pulled McKnight, who is black, from his Audi, argued with him and then shot him more than once as he stood over him.

“I told you not to f*ck with me,” Gasser said, before firing once more at McKnight as he lay on the ground.

McKnight, who last played in the NFL in 2014, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The procedures are strict. The sheriff sounds like a tough no nonsense type. I don't see any crap going on here with this investigstion. Seems like it will be above board. The guardian who raised the football player was on the force.

Um..

a 54 year old guy pulled a 28 year old Football player from his car?

I think there may be more to that story. Witnesses are notoriously poor of late.

Still I wonder how quickly NO police would have released a shooter in a reverse situation. I wager not in hours.

when one has a gun and the other doesn't.

Let's not get so hung up on the word "pull", that we ignore that he shot him multiple times in the head then shot him once more as he lay on the ground to execute him dead in a fit of rage.

Anytime someone gets released by police immediately after executing someone dead, the story is not about age or physical fitness. it's a reminder of whose life matters.

You don't need to have a gun to be executed publicly.

Trump's election win is the answer to all your questions.

Why is he dead? How did bullets get inside him? These are life's mysteries.

Witnesses said Gasser, who is white, pulled McKnight, who is black, from his Audi, argued with him and then shot him more than once as he stood over him.

Cops are telling a different story knowing how corrupt policing is in that area I'm not sure about their claims.

Let's see Glasser shoots Mcknight over an apparent road rage, gets to check his gun in, is released. That sounds about white.

Brass can fly up to 10 feet and I would like to see crime scene photos.

has been released from custody after questioning. The Jefferson Parish sheriff’s department said they could see no reason to hold him. “Authorities said [McKnight] got in an argument with Gasser on a highway in the suburb of Terrytown and was shot outside his vehicle,” according to NBC News.

(Snip)

A witness, who was leaving a nearby store on Thursday afternoon, told the Times-Picayune that she saw a man believed to be Gasser yelling at McKnight near the intersection of Beherman Highway and Holmes Boulevard. Their cars—Gasser’s blue Infinity and McKnight’s silver Audi SUV—were seen parked side-by-side at a traffic light. McKnight was standing next to his car trying to defuse the situation and apologize, she said, when Gasser, who was yelling, shot him.

(Snip)

Video of the aftermath shows paramedics attempting to revive McKnight but, by then, it was too late. A woman’s voice called out from behind the camera.

“It could have been any one of us,” she can be heard saying. “That man just got out and shot that man.”

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/12/02/ronald-glasser-shot-unarmed-joe-mcknight-hours-later-the-police-released-him.html

Why is a story of rage and murder so hard to believe? It happened to Will Smith. Why else did he shoot him?

when many unarmed people have been shot and killed by police

Road happiness leads to singing and whistling. Shooting someone to death without rage sounds like some cold blooded calculating stuff.

If it wasn't rage, then what was it? A calm rational peaceful execution?

I will always believe people who don't know it's wrong to shoot someone.

What crime did the deceased commit to justify it? Where was his trial and evidence?

So quoting the discredited witness is rather inappropriate, although until the autopsy and other forensics was done, I suppose that's all the press had.

This still doesn't mean that there will not be charges, but whatever happened is not what this witness said. Right now it doesn't appear they have enough to charge him. Right now.

The man who shot and killed Joe McKnight was cited a decade ago after a road rage incident in which he allegedly beat another man on the same intersection where he shot McKnight on Thursday, authorities said.

Ronald Gasser was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple battery in the Feb. 20, 2006 incident, after a man said Gasser attacked him and beat him with his fist, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said. The charge was ultimately dismissed, but will be reviewed again now, JPSO said in a press release.
