I found this article soothes my fears

Suggests that Donald Trump will be a "disjunctive" president, where conservativism finally fails and he is the sort of president who ushers in a surprising shift to dominance by the other party. Not that a Trump presidency will be a bed of roses, far from it, but if history is a guide there is light at the end of the tunnel.-

...we are experiencing something unique in our history. First of all, a party that for a generation has shown more and more contempt for the norms of liberal democracy. And finally, after their work is done, comes churning out of the swamp the culmination of their labors: an outright fascist in the White House. We are in utterly uncharted territory, and I'm afraid that article--which made me feel good, for a brief instant, when I read it--is whistling past the graveyard. Too many people are "normalizing" what's happening, even here at DU--"well, people thought the same thing in 2000 and 2008, when Bush and Obama won"--that sort of thing. Absolutely none of the old rules apply anymore.

I wish I could believe this version that the historic cycles are always the same, but this time everything broke down. The media and the polls are two great examples. In hindsight we can see that none of it was even close to the truth. The evidence that the media was broken is obvious. If Trump cleared his throat or belched they abandoned everything else they were covering to rush to see what he would do or say next. They're still doing it. We get to have constant breaking news telling us what Trump's latest tweet is.

Pundits don't know what they're talking about anymore because Trump doesn't fall into any past pattern. Even the loathsome pundits can't really defend Trump well because he doesn't clue then into what he's going to do or say next either. People like Kellyanne are in the terrible position of being played by Trump just as much as anyone else.

I hate to say it but the only similarities to any form of government that come up are those of dictators. This government by the Billionaire Club could very well be just a coup.

We might as well be governed by Wall Street now. Not the three branches of government.

Medicare cuts, SS privatization, cancels net neutrality, gives billionaires a 100% tax break and doubles military spending he will be magnanimous and give everyone in the US a Trump Tower 20$ off coupon.

"Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who was an early supporter of Donald Trump and is now reportedly being considered to serve in his Cabinet, doesn’t seem to be a big fan of the deal that pushed an Indiana-based air conditioner company to keep almost 1,000 jobs in Indianapolis rather than moving them to Mexico. In a column for the website Young Conservatives, Palin said that while the details of the deal aren’t known there are enough red flags to question whether the agreement isn’t just another example of “crony capitalism.”"

*Carter has integrity and is a great person.

My point is that Carter came in on a populist wave (barely), just as Donnie did.

Also, by the late 70's, America was in revolt against the social revolution of the 60's.
Remember the anti-busing riots, tax revolts, and opposition to affirmative action as well as the rising
popularity of capital punishment?!?

Just as Americans become more conservative in the 70's, they are becoming more liberal in the 10's decade.

Will Elizabeth Warren (born into a Republican family) play the role of Ronald Reagan for Democrats?

That's what I've said from the Nov 9th; that Obama's act is going to be hard to match even for Clinton and that DPutin is THE PERFECT fuck up and someone who's alienated his own party (look at all the people fighting over the SoS position).

lol ...

Then a whole 2 generation of people get to say fuck the GOP... they suck .... and hopefully the voter suppression laws have been faught to a positive conclusion.

That's the only thing the article leaves out is that voter suppression will allow a Paul Ryan like it allowed DPutin
