It will just be rerouted. It will also be more expensive and that will increase the cost of the oil flowing through it, increasing the price of the products refined from it. Perhaps increased cost will spur more conservation, but the pipeline itself is not being abandoned, just the short section that would have crossed reservation land/water.

It will go under the Missouri River. It will still have land condemned under imminent domain. It will still only pay landowners for PERMANENT easements, when mineral rights contracts are only for 25 years. And it will still carry the products of fracking. The is certainly a win for Native American sovereignty, but for the rest of us, not so much.
