Senior Republican: Trump has given me assurances he will axe Obamas LGBT rights protections

Senior Republican: Trump has given me ‘assurances’ he will axe Obama’s LGBT rights protections
Nick Duffy 5th December 2016, 8:07 PM

A senior Republican has confirmed that the Trump administration is still planning to roll back Barack Obama’s executive orders on LGBT rights.

President Obama last year signed an executive order outlawing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity among federal contractors. Earlier this year his administration followed up with guidance to schools, urging them not to discriminate against transgender students.

The Trump administration, which says it plans to axe many of Obama’s executive orders, has declined to say whether the measures will see the axe, though VP-elect Mike Pence said previously that he would repeal them so that “the transgender bathroom issue can be resolved with common sense at the local level”.

A senior Republican who previously led the efforts to attack the executive orders in Congress has now confirmed the intention.
Oklahoma Rep. Steve Russell had previously attached an amendment to the crucial National Defense Authorization Act that would effectively usurp Obama’s order, giving federal contractors a license to discriminate against LGBT people based on religious beliefs.

Everyone who voted for Trump will be the "good Germans" of the American version of the Reich! As long as the rights he takes away are from women, non-Christians, gays, and people of color, Trump supporters will look the other way!

This is exactly what many of us were afraid was going to happen. It starts with this shit and then gets bigger and bigger. Perfect example: Russia! Given the alleged ties the new administration has with Russia, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised for them to take a page from Putin's book, after all who the fuck is going to stick their necks out for a bunch of queers?! Yes, I know there are some real allies out there, but when push comes to shove, our rights will be on the chopping block and most will just shake their little fists and call it a day, all while waving a rainbow flag, after all that is all one needs to be a true ally.

They are so fierce in their dislike of gay people, TS/TG people it makes you think....some of them must have issues with these...issues.

They like to be seen as so religious but only the parts they want to hone in on, fudged or not.

Good humans do unto others as they would have them do unto them, and practice a live and let live philosophy. The Bible should not be about hate.

Right now the haters have a lot of power but we on the side of what is right will fight them to the last breath. The Hell with them.

And that Orange fraud who scotch tapes his ties will never be my president. I had issues with Nixon but not like this. Doofus Dubya was a disaster but not like this guy, this fraud.

"common sense protections "

Yes, that would have been ideal, but likely would have never passed, which is when our President made those proclamations it was because he refused to allow bigotry to win the day. It would be wonderful if he could have shored it up, but he still has a framework in which he is required to work, and it did not offer up protections for the GLBT.

Executive orders can be whisked away with a stroke of a pen. Obama and Democrats got too content with trying to force through through executive orders instead of working to retake Congress and pass actual legislation.

Even judicial decisions can be overturned.

A lot of overconfidence...and I saw it here too. A lot of people were saying things like that a "Republican will never win the White House again so we don't have to worry about executive orders being overturned." And that was said so many times many Democrats and progressives actually believed it!
