December 10 is Jane Addams Day, celebrated in Chicago and around Illinois by many groups. I'm happy to have a direct connection to Jane Addams via my mother's family (the baby in picture, my mom, is wearing a sweater knitted by Jane Addams, and her mother, my grandmother, was one of the "Hull House Children." Jane Addams is our family deity!)
This Saturday, Dec. 10, from 1-3 pm, I'll be part of the Jane Addams Day Celebration at University of Illinois at Chicago, in the Student Center East, 750 S. Halsted Street, Room 603 (Chicago 60607). Two distinguished historians will discuss the role of Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr in women's electoral politics.....*sigh* .... and I'll sing some songs!

Admission is $12 at the door.

3. Jane Addams and Hull House

Did your grandmother talk about her experience at Hull House or have stories about Jane? I wish I could attend, but live too far away. Will there be any recordings of the event to buy later?

Thanks for sharing! I remember reading a book about Jane Adddams when I was in 3rd grade. I was in our school library and read the preface and she immediately interested me so I checked the book out and found her very inspiring.
