Noam Chomsky warns Trumps victory presents literal threat to survival of human species

Noam Chomsky warns Trump’s victory presents ‘literal threat to survival’ of human species
Erin Corbett 06 DEC 2016 AT 13:31 ET

“The threats and dangers are very real,” he said. Namely, the positions that Trump has taken in regards to climate change and the Iran deal pose a threat to the future of the country and the world.

“The threats that we now face are the most severe that have ever arisen in human history,” Chomsky warned. “They are literal threats to survival: nuclear war, environmental catastrophe.”

He continued, “They became more urgent on November 8th, for the reasons you know and that I mentioned. They have to be faced directly, and soon, if the human experiment is not to prove to be a disastrous failure.”

I read the reasons why a guy that lives in the coal region in WV voted for Trump.

He said he had nothing to lose.

I thought, except...social security, medicare, food assistance, ACA, veterans benefits, SSI, etc, etc, etc.

But the republican controlled government will remind him about all that soon no doubt.

As to the post with a video of comedian George Carlin and your post - I REALLY HATE SAYING IT - but I hope the GOP unleashes the full brunt of their policies on the country. THEY deserve it since they lack any degree of empathy, critical thinking skills, the inability to discern propaganda vs. news and drowning in an ocean of selfrighteousness over survival. Fuck them!

So be it. Cheers.

the anti-intellectual ignorance on this issue is stunning! For some though, it's about money and profit being more important than millions of lives. It's why I despise the plutocracy. They put their own personal wealth above everyone and everything else. That in and of itself is a threat to lives here and abroad. It SHOULD be criminally-negligent.

If Trump ends humanity, then quite frankly we deserve to be ended.

Humanity was given every chance to do better and we have failed hard. Not just this election, but the whole post industrial revolution has been a mismanaged shitshow.

The growing stupidity in the US is out of control and it has us going down a dangerous path.

It is like bad Bizarro World right now. That CNN reporter's exasperation at those five trump voters would be funny if it was not sad. She could not shake them from thinking millions voted illegally in California. The lead lady said she heard it on CNN but when challenged she said maybe it was Facebook. They were all morons.

It will be a test to see if a critical mass of republicans bail, if enough gather enough self respect eventually. Not sure I would bet on it. If some actually believe(d) that the Clintons run a sex ring out of a Pizza House all bets are off.
