(27,787 posts)1) The entire thing is dumb on the merits but let's skip that. The GOP is going to struggle to explain why the need 80,000 more documents on this. They screamed when the ACA was 2700 pages because thats too much to read, now they want 80,000 documents.
2) They can't easily explain why the need more documents. The documents they are demanding have nothing to do with how the program came to be, but what happened after Holder learned about it. And they want to argue that Holder knew about it and that he allowed it to go on even after a boarder agent was killed. And that there was a cover up ... and, it goes all the way to the white house ... and ... blah blah blah ... are you bored yet.
3) Every second they spend screaming about this cuts into Mitt's messaging time. Mitt wants to be screaming that Obama is killing the economy, and these guys are bring up boarder issues, which are close to immigration issues, which Mitt is afraid of.
4) Obama wants to run against the GOP congress, and its very easy to point to this investigation and say "see, here again, polticially motivated attacks, when they should be passing my JOBs bill!" ... easy message.

JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)But after the House votes or contempt, which they will ... nothing happens. By invoking executive privilege, Obama has cut Issa off at the knees. The media can't pretend to not know that all recent Presidents have at times used executive privilege.
And again, every minute the media spends on this, Mitt isn't getting his message out. He's irrelevant.

(22,143 posts)Because they have no guts at all. Reagan should have been impeached but wasn't. Poppy Bush should have been impeached but wasn't. The entire Bush the lesser administration should be in prison right now but they aren't. Because no one had the sack to call them out and rightfully punish those bastards. Our party is the party of wimps and wussies and I'm sick of it.
Republicans are more than happy to run right over you and do not hesitate to do so. I hate their policies but I admire their take no prisoners, win at any cost mentality. That's why they've been kicking our asses for thirty years. That's why they're winning all the battles that matter. That's why we have a right wing government in a center left country. Because we're a bunch of punks. They own us.

(31,706 posts)"Fast and Furious" has been this big big big scandal hate radio has been obsessing about for years. Most people have no clue of what its about other than it sure means that President Obama is corrupt and Holder is his enabler (now there's not a tint of racism in any of this...the black guys are helping give guns to the Mexicans :shiver . The story has churned in the hate radio world to the point that whatever it was that Obama and Holder did are surely being buried in the documents that Issa wants. Of course if they don't find what they're looking for in this witch hunt, they'll go after even more. That's the darndest things about conspiracies...they just keep going and going.
We see how far a "contempt of Congress" citation goes with such folks as Karl Rove and Alberto Gonzalez as well as a parade of booooosh aparachniks who routinely lied to Congress or were given Executive Privilidge over such trivial things as illegal wiretapping and stacking the judicial system with religious zealots. This one will fall down a similar political black hole but for the 24/7 news cycle the rushpublicans will howl how corrupt this administration is and the great unhinged will poutrage until the next bright shiny poutrage comes along...

(70,614 posts).... Issa didn't see the need to call anybody from the bush administration who
started the program?
A long time ago when I was a little boy our next door neighbor's brother (in a
middle class neighborhood) was the governor of PA and his name was Ray Shafer
and he was a good guy who played with the kids in the neighborhood, worked for
good roads and quality public schools and colleges, supported civil rights, supported
a clean environment, and he would have no place in the republican party today.
