Tennessee: Dutch politician, guest of Tenn. senator at RNC, guilty of hate speech

A Dutch politician who attended the Republican National Convention this year as a guest of a Tennessee state senator has been convicted of inciting discrimination and hate speech.

Geert Wilders, a far-right politician and contender to become the prime minister of the Netherlands, was convicted related to comments he made calling for fewer Moroccans in the country, according to USA TODAY and the New York Times.

Wilders was a guest at the RNC in Cleveland of state Sen. Bill Ketron, R-Murfreesboro. During a brunch event hosted by Jimmy Haslam, brother of Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and owner of the Cleveland Browns, Wilders spoke with a litany of Tennessee politicians, including Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, R-Tenn.

"Muslims are not necessarily my problem, but Islam is. Islam and freedom are not compatible," Wilders told The Tennessean at the time.
