Trump Says He Didn’t “Divide” America. The New York Times’ Response Is Perfect
By Natalie Dickinson
Posted on December 9, 2016

Potential election winner Donald Trump has been complaining about his TIME “Man Of The Year” cover, which labeled him the next leader of the “divided states of America.” Speaking to the Today Show, Trump whined that “When you say divided states of America, I didn’t divide them. They’re divided now.” He added later, “I think putting divided is snarky, but again, it’s divided. I’m not president yet. So I didn’t do anything to divide.”

New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow took Trump to task for his obvious attempts to dodge responsibility for exacerbating the deep rifts that cut through American society for his own personal gain:

Donald, thy name is division. You and your campaign of toxicity and intolerance have not only divided this country but also ripped it to tatters.

This comports with an extremely disturbing tendency of Trump’s: Denying responsibility for things of which he is fully culpable, while claiming full praise for things in which he was only partly involved.

As my mother used to say: Don’t try to throw a rock and hide your hand. Own your odiousness.

But Trump delivered the lie with an ease and innocuousness that bespoke a childish innocence and naïveté. In fact, his words disguised cold calculation. That is the thing about demagogy: It can be charming, even dazzling, and that is what makes it all the more dangerous.

Demagogues can flatter and whisper and chuckle. They can remind us of the good in the world because they have an acute awareness of the ways of the world. They can also love and be loved. They can reflect our own humanity because they are human, but their ambitions do not bend toward the good.Their ultimate end is distraction, which allows domination, which leads to destruction.

I laid there for well over an hour before giving up on sleep. DU is no place to try to calm down tonight, but at least I know my friends are in the same boat.

I literally feel like I could throw up. Remember the anxiety here in the days before the election? One of our DUers said she dreamed Trump had been elected, and woke up and had the dry heaves. I can't remember if it was you or someone else who started hyperventilating. Well I'm there now with the nausea, but instead of hyperventilating I have to remind myself to breathe.

And somewhere out there are the goddamned trolls laughing at us.

There's more of us than there are of them. There's more of us than there are of them. We can ride this out.

Mahalo for doing so.

I remember that dream someone had that drumpf won.. how prescient.. we all thought it was just a nightmare.

I still feel like we're living one and we need to wake up.. It's the literal Global Twilight Zone magnified by billions.

Yes, it can get very depressing around here with all the latest news from putin pandering central.. greedy plans to strip our Democracy bare.

But, we can also find friends to talk to and help each other through this.. It's been over a month and although I have had some good days.. the peace of mind has been fleeting.

Never Giving up, though.. We can do this. Like rzemanfl says..

I am thinking of a novel. A political thriller.

The leader of the free world has lots of evidence that a foreign power has influenced the outcome of an election that chose a dangerous moron sociopath as his successor. He has information from multiple super-secret agencies regarding the interference. The problems he is facing are-

1) he doesn't know who he can trust, the FBI, for one, is certainly involved in the plot
2) he needs absolute, incontrovertible proof-confessions, transcripts of phone calls, proof of software hacks and machine tampering
3) he cannot tip his hand until the time is right
4) he wants to avoid a civil war
5) he has very little time

I think I will call my main character "Barack."

A gay man, supporting trumps picks for Czars.....All of whom are rabidly anti-gay. Got upset when I called him a homophobe. A comment that I stand by. You can not support homophobes by the dozens and not agree with them on some level. Those appts should have been deal breakers for anyone who is truly for gay rights.

You can't reason with a dense brick wall.
Besides his own treacherous mindset, he is supported and surrounded by cold-blooded, wretched suck ups who put everything and anything above the well being of humanity and the earth we live on.

I'm not ever going to get over this exploding freak show. Even while I will stubbornly struggle to survive the shredding of my country to bits by a two-bit, imbalanced con man, I can't see how I will ever get over this abomination.

The only power I have is my signature on petitions, emails and messages left on office recorders. And that is pretty worthless in the scheme of things.

The Cretin hasn't just divided the country, he has taken a barbed wired baseball bat to destroy all sanity.

Pslams 5: 8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. 9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. 10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee. 11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. 12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
Psalms 10 defines Trump to a tee. I like to read 1- 10 for comfort 58 is a nice curse though.
