Bigger Than Watergate

David Corn ?@DavidCornDC 12h12 hours ago
Russia influencing US election to put Trump in power is bigger than Watergate. https://t.co/5WmQhbJQ3L

David Corn ?@DavidCornDC 12h12 hours ago
Congrats, Republicans. You helped a Russian covert op to elect Trump. The US public deserves info on this now.

Joy Reid ?@JoyAnnReid 1h1 hour ago
Already, two giant asterisks stand beside @realDonaldTrump's election: Russian interference and a 2.8 million popular vote deficit.

Joy Reid ?@JoyAnnReid
At this point, the legitimacy of the incoming administration is up for public debate. That's a tremendously destabilizing thing.

Wow. This is deeply troubling. We have Russia's man heading to the White House. Trump is not only a fool, he may be Putin's tool.

John Dean @JohnWDean
The intel report on Russia's role in the 2016 election must be available for all electors before the electoral college meets Dec. 19.

are an attempt to not provoke the rethug backlash from Cheeto's voters, who will be crying "Foul!" if he's denied the 'residency.

But, I agree that there needs to be more outrage from the American people about this. I would think, given all those Billionaire Boys' Club cabinet appointees and a Oil Magnate maybe being confirmed as SoS, that there would be more alarm being voiced by the electorate. Maybe many are, but if they are, they're certainly being quiet about it. That could be because they're embarrassed to have been played so thoroughly and know that what's in store is going to be as bad for them as it for the "others" they wanted to deport or "put in their place". I've never met a rethug - rich or poor - who EVER wanted anybody rethug or Dem to "touch" their SocSec, Medicare and personal healthcare insurance, now everything is on the chopping block, and those gold-plated healthcare plans they're on might be one step away from throwing them off because of one illness or one pre-existing condition that are about to be repealed out of existence, and with that repeal, the legal prohibition against insurers from doing that to protect them.

So far, I'm not seeing the outrage that their 'resident, whether legit or not (and I say this confirms he's not and never was or even could be) was put in that position by Vlad Putin and that Cheeto is a tRumpchurian operative with Washington D.C. becoming Kremlin on the Potomac.

The CIA never said there were WMDs in Iraq.

The thing is, the Iraq War was not the result of an intelligence goof — rather, the country’s top office systematically misled the public about Iraq’s nonexistent WMD program, as well as Saddam Hussein’s link to Al Qaeda.

On Tuesday night, former CIA Deputy Director and Bush’s intelligence briefer Michael Morell appeared on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” where he, under an amount of good cable news duress, admitted that the administration intentionally misrepresented intelligence.

I think the best plan would be to elect Kasich. The electors and Republican Congress aren't going to allow Hillary to be elected, but they might nail Trump. It depends on how the public feels about this Russian manipulation. Republicans in Congress will elect Trump if his base stands behind him.

44. (R) Voters will be outraged. Some "#NotMyPresident" appropriation probably.
Sat Dec 10, 2016, 01:48 PM

(D) voters should be outraged, but the party of reality will resign themselves to "welp, beggers can't be choosers".

Kasich won't do anything because he'll be congress' lapdog (toting the 1% approval rating he'll have entering office). Ryan and McConnell will dismantle everything and threaten impeachment if he steps out of line.

We need to convince Republican electors to vote for Clinton, but elect Kaine. Use some reverse psychology to imply "well, Clinton's guilty, and republican congress/senate will keep her in check anyways (main fear of a lot of these people was a dem controlled senate/congress giving "crooked Hillary" free reign)". Tell them "she'll probably be impeached and we'll get Tim Kaine" and they should be reasonably discontent but not discontent enough to avoid casting their vote for HRC.

The Republican Congress would simply object to and then vote to exclude any electoral votes for Clinton that came from a state Trump won. That would take the majority of votes away from Trump, but then the House of Representatives would have to choose between Trump and Clinton, because no one else would have any electoral votes. To keep Trump out, somehow a third candidate needs to get at least one electoral vote that the Republicans in Congress would not disqualify. Then the Republicans in Congress could nail Trump by voting for that person. It seems a lot more likely that they would do that for Kasich than vote in Hillary.

is that when things went wrong during the 2000 election and again in 2004, we thought once stories emerged about the vote flipping that Voters saw happen and other questionable practices (tabulators with programs designed to change the votes), many people (myself included) thought that there would be an investigation into what really happened. There was much angst and discussion here on DU and other places about the truth coming out and that what happened would be fixed. Some of us had our hopes raised that maybe Bush was not re-elected after all. That there would be a REAL INVESTIGATION and that our System of government would work to fix what went wrong. But we were mistaken and our hopes were dashed.

Now we are faced again with an even bigger crisis in our electoral system. Another country (countries?) have interfered with our national election to insure that the candidate of THEIR choice is put in place. This candidate (and others in his party) is telling us to ignore the facts about this and even our elected officials who CAN DO SOMETHING seem to be slow to take this seriously. We hear a lot of lip service but so far it seems to me we will continue to hear more rhetoric and hot air about this and then like 2000 and 2004, it will all fade away. Nothing will happen to tell us the truth and get to the bottom of the extent of Russia's manipulation and hacking.

I wish I felt sure that this nightmare we've been enduring since Nov. 8th is going to be corrected but alas, I am not convinced it will happen. I have a very tiny flicker of hope, but it's not much. Anyone else feel this way?
