Former SNL star Joe Piscopo considers run for New Jersey governor
Associated Press in New Brunswick, New Jersey
Saturday 10 December 2016 16.53 GMT
The former Saturday Night Live star Joe Piscopo says talk of him running for New Jersey governor to succeed Chris Christie in 2018 is not a joke.
Piscopo, 65, gained fame as a member of the SNL cast, impersonating his fellow Jersey native Frank Sinatra as well as the late-night host Dave Letterman. He has also appeared in films and hosts a political talk radio show in New York.
He says he would probably run in New Jersey as a Republican, but isnt ruling out jumping in as an independent after the 6 June 2017 primary.
Im seriously looking at it, he said, promising to make a decision by January. I love the people. I love the state. I know what has to be done.
Piscopo, who has never campaigned for or held office, considered running in 2004. He said he felt emboldened by the victory of President-elect Donald Trump, whom he spoke for recently at a Florida rally.

(46,038 posts)1. Memo to Joe P.
1. This is New Jersey, not the Mid-west.
2. Al Franken won his seat in the Senate for his intelligence, not b/c he was an SNL alum.
3. You have a talk radio program on WAPP. I've heard better and that includes Rush.
4. I listened to democratic candidate, Phil Murphy, last week for 45 minutes. You aren't in his league whatsoever.

I would always get Piscopo and Franken confused. Too bad he's not a Democrat.
