I have walked out of business when they start going there. Once I let my wife collect all the things she wanted as the employee behind the counter got political with me. When she was finished and set them on the counter, I looked at her and said, I think we will like the shop across the street better.
She understood once I explained.

I ran a small business for 38 years, and I took it as my right to be political. I'm in a Southern town, NC, and with all that has happened over all this time I had to make a choice. I was the boss and I was making a choice, but keeping my mouth shut would have been like being encased in ice. I chose to be myself, and yes, at times I lost customers. Especially when I would get a right wing email with many recipients saying things like: "The in-niggeration happened today".
I would then take an hour or more to compose something and then reply to all.
So over time that crap stopped, and I did lose some folks, but gained others.

Over the last half a year I would call up Trump display displaying businesses, tell them of whatever I need, and then tell them which of their competitors I would take it to, and why they are not getting it.

For me, keeping my mouth shut about what's going on around me is not a way I can live..

Businesses or employees should get into political discussions or statements at work at all, if they have the same politics as I do, I'm willing to overlook it.
