How Schumer and the Democrats are preparing to fight

As of Jan. 20, Chuck Schumer will be the most important Democrat in the land. But spend a few minutes with the incoming Senate minority leader and it’s clear where the real power lies.

I was interviewing the New York Democrat in his Capitol hideaway office this week when he paused to take a call on his archaic flip phone. It was about an event scheduled for the next day to highlight a new initiative tallying jobs “outsourced” overseas during the Trump presidency.

Schumer had one question: “Is Bernie coming?”

“He told me he’d come,” Schumer continued. “Hold on, I’ll call him right now.” The party leader had his aides track down Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the populist insurgent who nearly beat Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries. “Hey, Bernie, so can you come?” Schumer asked. “We’ll do it at a time that’s good for you, okay? .?.?. Try to clear it. It’s a good event. .?.?. It’s right up your alley and you can help us by coming. .?.?. It complements what you’re doing. .?.?. We need you.”

Schumer hung up. “Okay, he’ll come.”

If the power lay with Bernie, he would have won the fuckin' primary!

Including him, because he caucuses with Democrats, make sense. Warren and ALL other Democrats are included because we need to work together.

But remember, Bernie is no Democrat. He reverted to being an independent very quickly.

We have real problems in this country. Bernie worship is divisive and solves nothing. Get over yourselves.

and not for many, many other Democrats. I was actually alive when JFK was President.

We have serious problems in this country. Mooning over an aging socialist as though he is a rock star is not going to solve them. The repubbies and the neonazis are laughing openly about this kind of behavior. We need toughness, not finger-wagging.

Why don't you just come right out and call us vagina voters? Or maybe you like having big, manly Russians as the power behind the throne.

I am used to the misogyny on DU, but I don't have to ignore it.

A wonderful person who EVERYONE should aspire to be like. The first woman to run for the local school board to succeed her husband's (my Dad) seat.

Take that misogyny crap and... well, re-evaluate it! _I_

He also barely campaigned for Hillary. He spent July and August and almost all of September busily writing his book (that for some reason couldn't wait till after the election.)

An article on September 30 said he was ready to start campaigning, after attending only two events in September (one in NH).

So if Bernie's an example of the "real power," we're even more screwed.

Perhaps she didn't want to remind anyone that she was a weak-enough candidate to have Senator Sanders nip as closely to her heels as he ultimately did?

And you can't hide behind the "he's not a Democrat" thing that enables you to bash him. But he's MORE a Democrat, in the FDR, JFK and Jimmy Carter mode than WJC and HRC will ever be.

Go to AtA and complain to them. I don't think this site was created to prop up DLC/Middle Way bullshit!

Bernie supported her after the primaries! Prove me wrong!
