How Did We Get to Where We Are?

We are saying goodbye one of my biggest heroes in John Glenn. I can remember seeing him orbit the Earth though a little black & white portable TV in my classroom. I wanted to be an astronaut because of John Glenn and his six fellow astronauts. They benefitted from the vision of John F. Kennedy, a great president who succeeded one of the greatest Republican presidents in Dwight D. Eisenhower.

You looks at the essentials for John Glenn. fought in two wars, astronaut and explorer, long time distinguished senator from Ohio and, last but not least, a wonderful father and deeply devoted husband of 73 years.

As we say goodbye to a great man we are left with Trump, Pence and Bannon. How in God's world can we go from three people we can look up to like Glenn, JFK and Ike to a narcissist-homophobe, a legislative homophobe and a homophobe-wife beater. I know I blame to an extent my generation. The greatest generation gave us the gifts we needed to be happy and successful, but we never quite got enough of receiving (or taking) and didn't follow our parents enough in the spirit of giving. Partly because of this we have Trump, Pence, Bannon, Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, Gohmert, Falwell Jr. ... and the list goes on and on.

We may shun this path, if not EC doubts about Trump, if not then two or four years but we still have a relatively young Ted Cruz to deal with and political newbies Joni Ernst and Tom Cotton to deal with for the rest of my life at least.

I've done more than enough rambling and venting my fears and frustrations. I needed to vent.
