McCain on offensive against Exxon's Tillerson for Sec. of State

John McCain goes on offensive against Donald Trump’s likely secretary of state nominee

http://www.allsides.com/news/2016-12-11-0904/john-mccain-goes-offensive-against-donald-trumps-likely-secretary-state-nominee

Sen. John McCain blasted the likely secretary of state nominee of President-elect Donald Trump Saturday, saying he’s concerned about Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson’s close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I don’t know what Mr. Tillerson’s relationship with Vladimir Putin was, but I’ll tell you it is a matter of concern to me,” McCain said Saturday during an interview with Fox News.

“You want to give the president of the United States the benefit of the doubt because the people have spoken. But Vladimir Putin is a thug, a bully and a murderer, and anybody else who describes him as anything else is lying,” he added.

NBC News reported Saturday that Trump had chosen Tillerson to be his secretary of state, though the campaign has yet to make an official announcement.

Tillerson managed the relationship between the company and the Kremlin as an Exxon executive. He struck a deal that allowed ExxonMobil to access Arctic resources in Russia in 2011.

So far, McCain is the first Republican senator to raise objections to Tillerson, and if just three more joined him and a united Democratic front, Tillerson’s nomination could be blocked.

Mark Salter, a former top Senate aide, said Friday that he believes Tillerson would have an extremely difficult time getting though the Senate confirmation process — if he could at all.

“Tillerson would sell out NATO for Sakhalin oil and his pal, Vlad. Should be a rough confirmation hearing, and a no vote on the Senate floor,” he tweeted Friday.

He has no loyalty and only cares about his own interests. They will defend him for now but he's not even in office and his approval rating is 40%. They have to go home and get re-elected, and he doesn't.

Trump will not have an easy time. I won't be surprised if they impeach him so they can install Pence, whom I'm sure they'd rather have. If they do it after the two-year mark then Pence run in 2020 and run for re-election in 2024.

If something happened so that Trump cannot hold office, I would protest that next in line is Pence. Pence never ran for president. Pence did not win the popular vote over Trump by 2.6 million votes. Hillary did. End of subject. If not Trump, then Hillary is next in line.

Pence can place hold during the transition.

Yeah, the people spoke, and 2.8 million more of them spoke in favor of Hillary's vision for America and not whatever this is that Trump's doing.

This is NOT the new normal, it is an aberration that needs to be resisted at every turn.

BTW, I believe Rachel did a piece on Tillerson that stated that he was given Russia's highest civilian honor for the work he had done with that country.
