HOUSE UNANIMOUSLY PASSES CHAFFETZ LEGISLATION PROTECTING FBI WHISTLEBLOWERS
PUBLISHED: DEC 7, 2016
Bill fixes a long-standing problem
WASHINGTON Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed, as amended, H.R. 5790, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2016 (404-0). The bill clarifies Congresss intent to protect FBI whistleblowers who make disclosures to managers and supervisors in their chain of command, bringing the agency in line with most others in the federal government.
While a great many changes remain to be made in how DOJ and the FBI respond to whistleblowers, this commonsense clarification is not minor. If implemented, it would have far-reaching implications in protecting whistleblowers at the FBI, just as Congress intended in 1978 in the first whistleblower protection law.

Got a lot of fellow travelers at the FBI, do they? Friends of Comey who're just burrrrrnnnning to blow in some of their more ethical colleagues, perhaps?

(20,998 posts)...Methinks those constituents back in Utah don't look so kindly on TREASON and foreign powers interfering with US elections, nor, are they stupid. I think ANYONE with any sense of equity and fairness can see that the ILLEGAL Comey interference was aimed at blunting Hillary Clinton's momentum in the GE. Even though many in Utah are arch-conservative, many are still patriots and are probably watching events unfold WITH MANY QUESTIONS.
And ultimately Chaffetz -R, Liar/Hypocrite, UT- wants to run next for Hatch's Senate seat, and knows he needs to look positively *sterling* to do so. Chaffetz has two masters now: (1) the teabagger Freedom Caucus; and (2) the voters in Utah.

(14,307 posts)If so, that would be long overdue.
But I'm not hopeful. Chaffetz is the guy who mischaracterized Comey's letter as "reopening the investigation" into Clinton's email, whereas the letter itself was carefully circumspect. Chaffetz did not have to publicize the letter at all, but did anyway because he sensed partisan gain. And now we're in crisis. I blame him far more than Comey, who was in a no-win situation due to internal FBI pressure.
