What women should know about Trumps labor secretary pick

President-elect Donald Trump’s selection for secretary of labor, while a successful executive, has a complicated history with women.

Andy Puzder, 66, is the CEO of Tennessee-based CKE Restaurants, which is the parent company of fast-food chains Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. The company reported$4.3 billion in sales in its most recent fiscal year and employs 75,000 people nationwide.

Here are 5 additional things to know about the candidate to head of the U.S. Department of Labor.

1. Like Trump, he’s no stranger to controversy. Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s are arguably most known for provocative ad campaigns usually featuring scantily clad female celebrities, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian among them. In response to accusations of sexism, Puzder replied in 2011 that “we believe in putting hot models in our commercials, because ugly ones don’t sell burgers.”

2. His ex-wife accused him of domestic abuse. Police were twice called to Puzder’s home in the late 1980s in response to reports of domestic violence. Although Puzder called the claims “baseless,” his ex-wife Lisa Henning said in her divorce filing that Puzder hit her, threw her to the floor and cut off the phone line when she tried to call the police. Henning recently withdrew those allegations.

3. He’s opposed to minimum wage increases. Puzder has said minimum wage hikes would hurt small businesses and lead to job losses. He’s also an outspoken critic of paid sick leave and worker protections put forth by the Obama administration, including the expanded overtime eligibility rule.
