(29,557 posts)I think in these times, when the orange asshole I would be considered sexist for calling a "son of a *****" or a "b***ard" here is about to ruin the country we have better things to do. I apologized once and asked a question. I got no answer and formed a conclusion.

I'm done with the Deplorables. The only way their lives are going to start getting better is if THEY start hurting and I'm finished trying to stop it. I'll survive it, I've been doing it my whole adult life.

How this former cosmetologist was ever hired for her $84K/yr. job, which ostensibly requires a master's degree, would probably make an interesting story. She has a sketchy record in this agency, including accusations of pocketing fundraising receipts, lawsuits for unfair firing, etc.

(29,557 posts)When a woman gets a high-paying job she is singularly unqualified for, a man thinks only one thing: "Who is she ****ing?"
When she loses it in dramatic fashion then gets it back, a man thinks, "Hmmm... she must be blackmailing somebody."

Women are by definition not part of the old boy network.
I know from personal experience that the question "Who is she ****ing?" explained a lot of hiring decisions. I am not defending it, but won't ignore it.

(14,274 posts)It's amazing how much resistance there can be here against just using another word that doesn't have the bullshit sexist "woman bad" and other negative connotations to it.
And we still see thread after thread about sexism not playing any part in where we are today.

(51,308 posts)Misogyny was a large part of Hillary's loss.
But I think it's hypocritical to shame anyone for using that word.
It's descriptive, and I just don't see it as sexist in every iteration. Context is important.
Kellyanne Conway fits that word too.
DLevine
(1,788 posts)Depends on context.
We all have our opinions.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)I don't think it can be justified with saying well, she is acting like a "bitch.
You can't separate the word bitch from its negative, sexist connotations. Every time you call someone a "bitch", you are reinforcing the idea that women are lesser and that its somehow bad to be a woman. The characterizions people usually call bitchy are almost always stereo typically negative qualities constantly attributed to women. Im not saying dont insult her. But can't we do it without implying that its an insult to be a woman?
Can't we just stop and think about why we continue to use these words even after saying something like "Misogyny was a large part of Hillary's loss."? In my opinion it's just a continuation and normilization of sexism.

(51,308 posts)I rarely curse on DU, but it is a point of pride with many I could name here.
Some cannot post without using f**k every few words. Many of our most prolific posters seem to need to be crude in every post.
I'll watch for you to censure them, k?
Demit
(11,238 posts)I'm not censuring anybody, cwydro. I'm not in a position to. What I'm doing is registering my opposition to derogatory words for women in public. Especially from men, but from women too. I believe you can show your contempt for a person's actions without using loaded language like the self-described "old man" here did.
cwydro
(51,308 posts)I don't think calling him an "old man" is so nice either.
Yes, I know he used the term first, but you're getting a lot of mileage out of it.
Funny thing - so many here are happy to tell their age, and recently I've learned that many, many DUers are "old".
I don't use derogatory words for women or for men, nor do I usually curse on this forum. I think it bespeaks a lack of vocabulary.
I can think of a few DUers (not you) who regularly cuss in posts, and it is so obvious that they think it makes them sound tough or cool. Nah, makes them look like a 7th grader.
Demit
(11,238 posts)I'm old too, as a matter of fact. So I've lived through a lot of sexism and other forms of bigotry in my life. When I was younger, in the 70s and 80s and 90swhen Mr self-described "old man" was younger, btw, because he's around my ageI had to smile sweetly and accept the put-down language for comity's sake, even for my job's sake. "Oh it's just a joke," "Oh you have no sense of humor," "What are you, one of those women's libbers?" But I don't have to anymore, so I don't.
Today's young men are going to grow into old men and then they'll use the excuse of being old, just like the one in this thread did, who by the way let us know that he was aware of what he was doing, and then did it anyway.

Seems the agency is corrupt. Why she is still working there is beyond me. IMHO.
....................Before she became director, Taylor was briefly removed twice from her job at the CCDC.
In 1999, Taylor and two other employees lost their jobs when Clay Development's board was restructured. Within a few days, a judge ordered that all three get their jobs back.
Taylor said in a lawsuit deposition that she was removed from her job again in 2002 after she was accused of pocketing fundraising dollars, but was hired back after a few months.
In 2009, Clay Development listed the job requirements for the executive director position. The director was supposed to have, at minimum, a bachelor's degree with 10 years' experience.
Taylor said in a 2008 deposition that she attended Clay County High School and had no college education. Prior to joining the Clay Development staff in 1989, she was a cosmetologist..........................

(4,959 posts)No gender bias, no accidental or deliberate sexism, a nice old school all-purpose word.
Honestly, in this day and age, it doesn't matter how old you are - if you use the word you used on this board, you are being deliberately provocative and you don't get to play dumb about it.
Be respectful and use a different word, or make the choice and use the offensive one.
You made your choice.

I left this board early in 2010 largely because of the grave dancing that followed Annette Apollo's suicide. I came back after p***ygate. DU has changed. I don't think "b***h" would have caused such a stir 6 years ago.
Please answer a question for me, what is JPR?

That's all you really had to say.
Cal Carpenter
(4,959 posts)Because my first thought is "If asshole is boring to you, wouldn't you find the B-word be boring too? Not the most creative insult..."
But I see it now - the B-word isn't boring to you, but only because you know it will cause an uproar on DU. Fifty years ago "n*****" wouldn't have caused a stir in many places. Things change, and sometimes for the better.
(eta: not sure why you asked me about it, but I believe JPR is lately a reference to a discussion board named after Jackpine Radical, a former DUer who passed away. I don't know if he started this other board or if others named it after him. All I know about it is what I see here - it appears that most of DU is not pleased with whatever they're about)

(14,274 posts)Some people try to argue that the word is used against men so it's not sexist or "as sexist". The reason a man is insulted when someone calls him a "bitch" is because that person is usually implying that he is acting like a woman (which is ridiculous because all women are different) and that is "bad".
