We Get To Experience "On The Beach", "7 Days In May", "Dr. Stranglove" For Real.

Take your pick on 1, 2, or all 3. With Trump and the GOP and billionaires in charge we may get to find out that fact is as bad or worse than fiction. All of these novels have painted the worst things in a fictional way. However their fiction may become our reality with Trump and his cabinet wrecking crew.

None of them are qualified for these cabinet posts and all are fatally flawed to the core. We may want to read them again to see what might be in store for us and the rest of the planet.

Add to that the Manchurian Candidate; no need for torture, hypnosis when positive reinforcement and threat of blackmail works much better.

I read Nevil Shute's novel when I was rather young.

These days, Stanley Kramer's 1959 film serves well. Yes, the film may be somewhat flawed, and Shute hated it. However, the acting is quite good with some exceptional standouts. Ava Gardner is incredible, as usual. The real surprise is Fred Astaire who absolutely nails his first dramatic role. Gregory Peck turns in his usual very fine effort. The supporting cast is equally good. Look for John Meillon (Crocadile Dundee's mate) abandoning the Sawfish in San Francisco Bay.

The short poignant scene near the end between Admiral Bridie and Lieutenant Hosgood always brings me to tears.

Here's the awesome ending:

frightening movies I've ever seen.

Also, "Failsafe"

I can totally imagine that ignoramus Trump unwittingly getting us into a situation like that (albeit with China or North Korea rather than Russia) based on his belief that he's smarter than everyone else around him.

The man seriously needs to be gagged and placed in a straightjacket so he can't blabber or Tweet us into WW III.
