Good vessel for change? We know that election reform will never happen because the laws are always written by those who benefit from it's flaws. If a nationwide "No taxation without representation" gained traction it could very well open the door. Red states would cascade economically if the blue ones stopped feeding the fed.
The "No taxation without representation" thing has some good branding and conservatives would find it hard to argue against because a)It's a very "states rights" sentiment b)Tea party has been saying that shit for years c)General association with patriotism d)Tax avoidance is apparently the only form of protest they accept

(5,350 posts)Changing or eliminating the Electoral College is not just a matter of Congress passing a law. Contrary to what some would have you think, it would require a constitutional amendment. That would require passage by a two-thirds margin through both houses of Congress and then ratification by three-fourths of the states. That means that quite a few of the states which benefit most from the Electoral College would have to go along with it. How likely do you think that would be at any time in the foreseeable future?
What would tax avoidance would do to advance that?

(475 posts)The fact that 2.8 million people weren't represented in the 2016 election. That 2.8 million people's votes mattered less than 85k people's. We need to show that we can't support a Trump government on any level. I already see governors and various agencies vowing to unilaterally reject any sort of radical laws or ideas that a Trump administration may bring forward.
I don't want to jump to succession before all options are exhausted.

(5,350 posts)Withholding taxes won't accomplish what you want. Again, the process takes at minimum a couple of years (it took over 200 years for the 27th amendment to be ratified by the requisite number of states!). "Starving" the government over such a period of time is simply unworkable.

(53,060 posts)Remember, Jean-Jacques, that one of Trump's most fervent supporters has vast experience in running tent jails. If you think Trump WOULDN'T just bop on down to the middle of Texas and throw up a thousand old Army tents to house all the tax protesters...think again.
The three-step procedure for getting rid of Donald Trump:
Step 1: Find absolute evidence of atrocities so atrocious the only acceptable punishment for Trump and his minions is ritual suicide.
Step 2: Recruit 300 Republicans who are disgusted by Trump, who live in congressional districts represented by the gang of thieves, and who are willing to take a few years out of their lives to work for $165,000 per year. To make this work, there's got to be one of these folks for every Republican in both houses of Congress.
Step 3: Promise to primary any Republican congressman or senator who WON'T vote to impeach Donald Trump.

(1,430 posts)Somewhere and vote for the dems nom but dems won't so until that's fixed your not gonna get anywhere. Too many dems think that it's OK to vote for the grenade party or the libertarian party.
So now what we're reduced to are hail Marys, hoping the electors will this and hoping a recount the will do that. But once again the dems had to show them and then wasted their vote.
The elections are ours to lose

(244 posts)for the past 50 yrs hasbeen a lost cause . The Repubs are always going to cheat , lie, and obstruct everything. Dems always roll over on their backs and grab their ankles instead of fighting back as a cohesive force for positive change. The Democratic party is inept , and always finds a way to let GOP get their way.
