Must read this:The Perfect Weapon: How Russian Cyberpower Invaded the U.S.

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/12/13/us/politics/russia-hack-election-dnc.html?_r=0&referer=https://t.co/PQBwaIlF0j

WASHINGTON — When Special Agent Adrian Hawkins of the Federal Bureau of Investigation called the Democratic National Committee in September 2015 to pass along some troubling news about its computer network, he was transferred, naturally, to the help desk.

His message was brief, if alarming. At least one computer system belonging to the D.N.C. had been compromised by hackers federal investigators had named “the Dukes,” a cyberespionage team linked to the Russian government.

The F.B.I. knew it well: The bureau had spent the last few years trying to kick the Dukes out of the unclassified email systems of the White House, the State Department and even the Joint Chiefs of Staff, one of the government’s best-protected networks.

Yared Tamene, the tech-support contractor at the D.N.C. who fielded the call, was no expert in cyberattacks. His first moves were to check Google for “the Dukes” and conduct a cursory search of the D.N.C. computer system logs to look for hints of such a cyberintrusion. By his own account, he did not look too hard even after Special Agent Hawkins called back repeatedly over the next several weeks — in part because he wasn’t certain the caller was a real F.B.I. agent and not an impostor.

...has been running a series called "Cyberwars" recently and they make it clear that Russian hackers, while not part of the government, operate without interference for the highest bidder.

It's not hard to see why they have been successful. Americans, with their goofy optimism and need to belong, leave all these doors open that Russians and east Europeans have historically kept closed for generations out of fear of reprisal and jail.

It's a new world. And if the USA wants to keep calling itself 'the boss', it should realize that it is no longer about who has the most guns.

Came here to put up the link, but saw that you had already done so.

I feel sick and stunned. Every one in this country should be required to read what the Russians have done to us. It's not about Democrats and Republicans. The Russians have information to use on our country, whenever they want.

Frankly, Donald Trump should be terrified. Can you imagine all the information they have on him? Does he really think the Russians will spare him? Or maybe Trump already knows the intel they're willing to divulge about him----hence he will do their bidding. Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State.
