Gingrich brags that Republicans are coming for everything FDR accomplished

Last edited Wed Dec 14, 2016, 07:48 PM - Edit history (1)

“Every Republican wants to do a big number on Social Security, they want to do it on Medicare, they want to do it on Medicaid,” President-elect Donald Trump warned on the campaign trail. “And we can’t do that.”

Just over a month before Trump is expected to take the oath of office, however, one of his closest allies told a conservative gathering not to worry. Referring to this specific moment in history, when Republicans are about to take control of all three branches of government, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told an audience at the Heritage Foundation that “this is the third great effort to break out of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt model.”

Gingrich is a close ally of Trump and was once viewed as a top contender for a cabinet position until the former speaker announced that he wasn’t interested in such a job.

His full speech to Heritage on Tuesday was a mix of gloating, hero worship directed at Trump, paranoia, and grievance. “Something profound is breaking in the old order… a genuine revolution is building,” Gingrich proclaimed, shortly after he credited Donald Trump for giving Americans permission to “say Merry Christmas again.”

What pisses me off is for how often Gingrich has bad mouthed the federal government that dumb fuck has almost never worked in the private sector. His only private sector work is his grifting that's posed as conservative political fund raising.

There are so many of his type (hello Paul Ryan) that we as Democrats need to call out their hypocrisy. This charade has gone unchallenged for far too long.

Churchill and DeGaulle were not like the American right. They knew the enemy and made the deal (dirty as it was) to align with Russia against the fascists.

I am CERTAIN a Republican President would have aligned the US with Nazi Germany.

and George W. Bush got burnt when he tried to privatize Social Security in 2005. Them going after Medicare and even repealing ACA is looking increasingly perilous as well. Not that I'm discouraging Republican overreach that will only burn them in 2018 and 2020.

I would imagine that thousands daily are realizing they got played.

This recalls one of the Kochs saying he just wanted his fair share, which in his case was all of it.

It is lamentable. We may be in for a long dark night. If the forces of good and right ever take over again, I would hope that Fox News and their like will be looked at like Tokyo Rose or Joe McCarthy. The damage their propoganda will cause is incalculable.

The New Deal? Dead after 80+ years. Trickle down is back with a vengeance, on steroids this go-round. And false equivalency ("OK to say Merry Christmas now folks!&quot is close behind as the mandatory distraction.
