Trump's campaign is targeting three groups for widespread voter suppression.

It appears that Donald Trump and his campaign are well aware they are losing. Joshua Green wrote a great article that explores the future of the "Trump machine" and it's eventual Trump TV network incarnation. He wrote it from inside the campaign, with unprecedented access -- but the headline missed the big story. Even though they know they are losing, the Trump campaign is not going gently into that good night. However, they are not trying to win new voters. Rather, they are targeting three specific groups for suppression: young women, idealistic white liberals, and African Americans.

1. This was a real thing and it dominated fb newsfeed, and social media.
Nasty and disgustingly efficient.

2. And yet Jill Stein and cohorts chose to focus on recounts
The real problem is the suppression on the ground, especially that which is legal or just technically not illegal.

3. It was the only weapon she had... Why didn't (won't) the Democratic leadership (or lack thereof)
Bring it up? Voter suppression affects predominantly Democratic voters, not Greens, not Libertarians. If I was a Dem leader the words Voter Suppression, would be the first thing I talk about. And give the order that it is topic number one. Flood the TV with voter suppression talk.

4. They do in my area
We were fighting off a photo voter ID amendment that passed. The claim was that they are protecting the right to vote and people bought it despite the best efforts of the LWV and other groups.
The best voter registration drives and education about government comes from the League of Women Voters because they are education and issue oriented. All of our local democratic legislators are members. |
