How Do You Get There?
Some questions for Republicans:
How do you become so uncaring about your fellow citizens that you actually look for ways to make them suffer?
How do you become so hardened to that suffering that your first thought upon being in power is to take affordable healthcare away from those who finally have it?
How do you become so heartless as to champion the idea of cutting our seniors’ social security payments?
How do you become so devoid of feeling that you constantly seek to destroy the safety nets that are often the only thing between eating and hunger, between shelter and living on the street - literally between life and death for the most vulnerable among us?
How do you put aside any semblance of humanity while you gut funding for social programs in order to fund tax breaks for the wealthy?
How do you totally dismiss the well-being of your country as you devise ways to keep your fellow citizens from having their voices heard via their votes?
How do you ignore your self-touted “Christian values” while bringing as much hardship to bear on those struggling to survive as possible?
How do you become so lacking in decency that you vilify those who attempt to make things better while you do everything in your power to make things worse?
How do you look at your children and lovingly assure them they’ll have full stomachs and a warm place to sleep – knowing that you are finding ways to ensure that other people’s children won’t have either?
How do you blindly walk past panhandling veterans on the street begging for a scrap of food, knowing your party and its policies led to them being in such dire straits after serving in the wars you sent them to fight?
How do you become so bereft of patriotism you are willing to put our country’s leadership into the hands of a man who has proven beyond all doubt that he is incapable of leadership?
How do you become so oblivious to any chance at peace in this world you would support the presidency of a man who continually demonstrates his pettiness, his bullying, and complete disdain for diplomacy or global cooperation?
How do you become so inhumane you are willing to put all of humanity in jeopardy in order to score a political “win”?
Above all else, how do you sleep at night? How do you live with everything you’ve done, and everything you are about to do? How do you justify every action you have taken to destroy the lives of your fellow citizens, and ultimately your country?
Those of us who have a conscience, who understand that patriotism goes beyond wearing a flag-pin on our lapels, who want a better world for everyone and not just the few, and who appreciate what it means to truly be “our brother’s keeper”, would really like to know.
