General Discussion

would have been a bigger threat if he ran as an Independent?
He's never gonna get the religious base of the right, or the hard core tea partiers.
But would he appeal to those middle of the road Dems, Indies, and even Repubs?
Personally I think he would have been a bigger threat to Obama had he run as an Indie.
Thoughts?

(12,504 posts)I think his threat is probably bigger with the GOP, because he is who they really want and he is who they will push as the golden boy as we get closer to election time. They are just waiting for Gingrish to blow his wad.

(53,206 posts)but I still think he has a likability problem. There is something about him that most people instinctively can sense, but can't always define. I've tried to put it in words, but haven't quite nailed it yet.
The best I can come up with is a movie alien trying to impersonate a human being.

(533 posts)He's that type of guy that gets a lot of first dates, but not many 2nd or 3rd...
Nice house, nice car, nice clothes, good background, handsome in a game show host sort of way, but boring in the sack.
I can't even imagine him having sex.
I know this is going to sound really weird...but the rest of the bunch? No problem. Perry, Bachmann, Paul - all a little psycho. Some people find that intriguing. I can see it.
We won't even get into Cain, he's gone anyway...
Even Newt, the little troll, has something going on...he's bad a dog, a scoundrel
Mitt..nope, there's a block. My brain goes into a 404 Error, Page Cannot Be Displayed.
He has absolutely NO flavor whatsoever. He doesn't even qualify for "vanilla".
Also it is unsettling the way he tries so hard to make people like him. Makes me very uncomfortable.

(53,206 posts)There is something very childlike about how he tries so hard, as if he is emotionally stuck at fourteen years old. Even with all his money, he can't buy friends.

(53,206 posts)That's who I was trying to think of. He is Eddie Haskell, though Haskell is more likable.

(20,043 posts)is why I thought he could survive as an Indie.
I did overlook the likeability factor, or "flavor" as another poster put it.
I think the general consensus is he wouldn't/doesn't appeal to many outside the Romneyites. I'd have to agree as well..

(103,856 posts)after he was elected Governor...then serve as long as possible as a dem. He MIGHT have been able to run as a Dem by 2004..His money could have made a difference..Even though it was Kerry's "turn", Mitt's money could have beaten him in primaries.

(170 posts)I think Mitt is hiding his real views to get elected as a republican (in today's teabag environment) and therefore everything he says and does sounds so insincere and that is what people sense when he talks.
