Reviled Lion-killing veterinarian plunges to death on hunting trip

An Italian veterinarian loathed for his showy hunting trips plunged to his death while shooting wild birds in the county’s north.

Luciano Ponzetto fell 100 feet down a ravine last week while hunting birds with a group of friends just outside the Italian city of Turin last week.

“He died instantly and there was nothing that could be done,” an Italian police spokesman told British newspaper The Sun. “It looks like he slipped.”

The 55-year-old, who worked at a veterinarian in Turin, sparked outrage last year when he posted photos of himself grinning next to a lion he killed in Tanzania. Other photos on his social media accounts showed him smiling as he held a dead jaguar, proudly gazing at a slain ram and cocking a gun as he crouched next to a slaughtered warthog.

Trophy hunters will say they "took" it.

They also won't say they sawed the head off and left the body to rot. They'll say they "took the trophy".

I say, if you insist on taking the life of an innocent animal, own it. Don't describe it with some nice sounding euphemisms. Say "I shot it and followed the trail of blood. Then I took a hacksaw and took its head off. Yeah me!"

I'm not being snarky, though. I know that euthanizing animals in misery sometimes is part of the job description.

But I thought the major reason people became animal doctors is that they loved animals. This guy was a walking contradiction.
