The generation that fought hardest to come out of the closet is going back in to survive.

What would you do if you were old, disabled or ill – and the person feeding you put down the spoon and said that you are going to hell unless you change your sexual preference?

Sound absurd?
Social workers around the world say it’s happening every day.

Gen Silent is the critically acclaimed documentary from filmmaker Stu Maddux that asks six LGBT seniors if they will hide their friends, their spouses- their entire lives in order to survive in the care system.

Their surprising decisions are captured through intimate access to their day-to-day lives over the course of a year. It puts a face on what experts in the film call an epidemic: gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender older people so afraid of discrimination by caregivers or bullying by other seniors that many simply go back into the closet.

Unlike any film before, Gen Silent startlingly discovers how oppression in the years before Stonewall now affects older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people with fear and isolation.

He and his partner made the decision to marry as one was going in for heart surgery. He did not want to be left out of the room. Now that may be a moot point. So terribly sad and inhumane, brer.

I was helping William769 with his site. Broke my heart then and right now breaks my heart more. Trump wants them back in that closet, the rest of us will be shut away or cut off as well, for one reason or another they want us all dead.

Thank you ism.

which care providers are openminded. Perhaps some wealthy LGBT can develop or purchase long term care facilities to help make sure there are safe places. I know it's a huge undertaking, but in some places, it might be necessary.

I recall African Americans had The Green Book or Green Guide for traveling in the South. The guide listed which hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc, were friendly toward Black families during Jim Crow days.

If I was a private caregiver, I would make a point to mention my acceptance of same-sex couples, etc. If I was a supervisor, I'd fire anyone threatening a client/patient. They may have the right to refuse treating them if another person is available, but threatening to withhold treatment of the elderly is abuse.

Just throwing ideas out there.

I posted it to a friends site. Some may have changed since then, yet we know for a fact under trump it will take a hard turn. Most of this is based out of Boston MA, a blue state what will happen in red states? Boston is working on it , for the love of gawd I hope others are too.
