I used to live right next to Rock Creek Park on Connecticut Avenue and used the Metro every day. The Metro goes a long ways into the surrounding states, like VA and MD. If you can't find someone to give you their floor for the night, I suggest you look at this map of the Metro and find cheap motels you at your friend could share at the end of one of the Metro lines.

Also, a lot of the last stops on the various Metro lines have parking, as you can see on the map. So if you are driving from a nearby state, you can just park there early in the morning, take the Metro into DC, then take the Metro back to the parking lot and drive home.

By the way, thanks for going to DC and representing all of us!
