It's going to take massive peaceful demonstrations.
BUT these peaceful demonstrations must be populated with people who look like them, who they respect.
Police, military, clergy, older folks (grandma and grandpa), farmers and blue collar workers. All in their respective uniforms (conservatives LOVE uniforms).
Think about it: Occupy Wall Street. All Fox "News" had to do to discredit the entire thing was to pan a camera over the crowd of mostly young, "obviously non-working moochers" beating their drums. Conservatives HATE those drum beating, unemployed hippies.
Think about it II: When did Standing Rock come crashing down? When military vets showed up. It changed the whole dynamic of the protest.
Massive, peaceful demonstrations composed of people they respect is how you're going to reach conservatives.

(37,291 posts)They have to change their minds. Think of a blunt force injury. Republican policies will cause death and misery. That might help.
30 years of right-wing-hate radio and 20 years of Fox News have done their work. If the Republicans had more patience we could have been like Palestine.

(52,116 posts)if somehow balance is restored in the media, we could convince enough, but even that would take years.
sadly, the only thing that will convince them is an enormous failure of their own chosen leaders. keep in mind that shrub hardly fazed them, so we're talking huge, massive failure.
like, i don't know, maybe putin reclaiming alaska might do it? eh, probably not even that.

(111,141 posts)Remember the massive protests against the war in Iraq? If you don't, you are not alone. The MSM politely coughed and looked the other way.
Oh, peaceful protest has its place. However, a brick wall is going to have to fall on the average smug suburbanite before he realizes that not only did they not tell him the wall was shaky, they didn't even tell him it was there.

(35,295 posts)it was the Democrats that caused it. You talk to one of the Fox News robots and you find they have been programed
to believe what they hear on Fox and they block out anything to the contrary.

(13,168 posts)The worst thing is a "large protest demonstration" in Washington at this point. We need frequent, non-threatening, widespread rallies where everyone is invited. Have some food, visit the local community, visit the stores, hear some speakers, play some music, talk amongst ourselves, bring the kids...
Trump's rallies are about this. We can do better.

(12,640 posts)Sort of like the old Grange and community resource organizations. It means running community classes on politics and developing candidates for school boards, utilities and roads commissioners, town councils and county commissioners in pinkish-red B-F Egypt, whether we can win or not.
The die-hard "hate everything" Trumpazees may not be reachable, but other Trump voters can be, if they feel they've got representation, no matter how marginal, in the party.
Because that's what the Republicans currently grudgingly give them through the pulpits and airwaves. Democrats have to visibly make a difference there as well as in urban areas. We have to stop pretending we can't walk and chew gum, and we have to stop stovepiping actual activities; as a party, we have to push parellell progress instead of focusing on one effort exclusively at a time.
We have enough people and resources to do this. The historical short-sightedness in the Democratic party is that we have allowed our party patrons to pick and choose where the majority of our focus will be instead of coordinating a national strategy that will include people we may not think deserve consideration because they already have "theirs", in terms of access to privileges and resources. An average guy raising a family working WalMart delivery driving in Iowa depending on Aleve to get through the day doesn't see his privilege, just as a working class minority working two convenience store jobs to raise his family in the city doesn't see any privilege at all. They both need help and respect as inhabitants of this country.

(20,568 posts)It's a lock - executive, legislative and soon to be judicial. This is what a corporation looks like and the only thing that can penetrate a corporation is a lawsuit. He will violate the law again and again and we need to be ready with a legal organization. They did it to Bill Clinton on the flakiest of cases but this ass will serve up constitutional challenges galore.

(877 posts)no more "impeachment is off the table" crap. Enough. Fight.
Then we have to control the news. Donnie is going to piss off the news media so much -- watch that he NEVER gives a press conference; they're already talking about cutting back on the daily press briefings.
And then we have to shout - loud and clear. Forget these "pretty slogans" like "cutting the deficit" - say "you're cutting Medicare so Granny will die".
Stop being do dang professorial - just say it in plain language.

(23,927 posts)looks to me like the Trumpists believe all protesters are paid operatives of George Soros or some other liberal bugaboo, and "peaceful" is synonymous with "weak and annoying".
so when you say "massive peaceful demonstrations" that translates to Trumpese as "traffic-jam-causing assemblies of weak and annoying Soros operatives."
hearts and minds will not be easily won over.

(25,816 posts)They may start coming around as they lose their health care coverage, their pensions, their Social Security, and their Medicare or Medicaid. And even then they will almost undoubtedly believe that those losses are the absolute fault of the Democrats, and even the no-longer-in-office Obama.
These are people who are completely delusional as to which political party has done the things that benefit them, like minimum wages, paid vacations and sick leave, not to mention the things I listed above.
As things go to hell, everyone not a Trumpzilla needs to do their best to make it crystal clear to these people who is responsible.
Standing Rock was crashing down right before the vets showed up, although their presence did help.
Massive peaceful demonstrations, even if you could get the vast numbers required, will matter every bit as much as all those protests against the Iraq war. Completely ineffective.
Our actual best hope is that Congressional Republicans will understand just how awful Trump is and will block his worst intentions. Hoping that Trump is impeached isn't a good solution, because Pence would be even worse, since he's not so obvious a nut case.

(1,016 posts)They will get to the point of not trusting the GOP. Watch when none of Trump;s campaign promises are ever even proposed. His cabinet appointments already are a slap in their face about Wall Street, jobs are not coming back, no wall, no lock her up, Obama care won't be repealed, he won't defend SS nor Medicare. But they will never vote "librul retards demorats" That message is so ingrained in their DNA.
Trump will have his fake news going full blast.
Demonstrations are all paid actors by Soros.
The demonstrators will be branded traitors.
Fake news will make sure of that.
Just look a Pizzagate, they believe that Trump won the popular vote.

(43 posts)she was right about one thing...
A revolution begins in the mind of men, not in the streets.
Ideas are spread from philosophers, to professors, to media/cultural figures, to the masses. This does NOT happen the other way around, contrary to all those screaming for protests. This is a battle over centuries, not weeks or months.
