Trump inaugural singer Jackie Evancho criticized because sister is trans

Last week, Donald Trump‘s transition team announced that 16-year-old “America’s Got Talent” star and opera prodigy Jackie Evancho will be singing the National Anthem at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.

In addition to singing the National Anthem — an honor previously bestowed on iconic musicians like Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé — TMZ says that Evancho is in talks to perform a duet with opera legend Andrea Bocelli.

While Evancho is best known for being a young talent, she has also made headlines over the past year in connection to her 18-year-old transgender sister, Juliet, who is currently part of a lawsuit against a Pennsylvania school district over restroom access.

In a recent interview with People Now, Evancho said she’s been the target of hate following that announcement. “My family is kind of a big target. I have a transgender sister and so a lot of hate goes towards us,” Evancho told People. “I also get a lot of love. We pay most attention to that.”

1. Honestly....

I think she may get more notice for this issue by playing Trump's inauguration than by sitting it out in protest.

Her saying "I refuse because of my sister" would get one night of news cycle. Her playing will be a continued discussion and focus on this issue from now until the inauguration.

12. As an opera person, please know that NEITHER are "opera singers" or "opera legends"

Jackie is a "classical crossover" child singer (most people, even her so-called fans, don't even know she is a teenager now as they remember her as a child) which means she does not do opera (nor is she trained at sixteen to do opera -- there is no comparison). They are "classical crossover" singers (nothing irritates real opera singers, who devote decades to their incredibly demanding craft, than being compared to a cheap reality show "classical child singer" like Jackie Evancho).
