Does anybody here work in retail?

The reason I ask is my wife has been telling me local merchants she comes into contact with at her part-time job say business is awful. They blame the recent installation of parking meters. I'm wondering if it isn't because more than half the country feels like shit over this effed up election. I could give an anorexic rat's ass about Christmas.

Usually at this time of year there are news articles about how great sales have been and how things are selling out. I may not be paying much attention, but I don't recall seeing any since the election disaster.

What are your thoughts and observations DU?

and business is fantastic. There are no parking issues at this store. They also offer online shopping, which is doing a lot of business.

So that means less cars in the parking lot.

However, what I have seen doing some shopping today at Dollar Tree (the store was gutted and understaffed), Wal Mart, (The store was fairly stocked, but the front end was short staffed), K-Mart (the store looked as bad as it usually does and the front end was understaffed), True Value (well stocked and well staffed), Aldi (appeared to be busy based on parking lot), Target (appeared to be slow based on the parking lot).

That's what I saw.

Now I would love to work to take my mind off this feeling of impending disaster. I have taken anything that might even hint at my age out of my resume.

I had 40+ years of Retail Grocery and it was being made more than obvious that they wanted me gone, so I accommodated their desires. Left them to figure out my job in the run up and through the holiday season. It cost me a bit, but I enjoy every day knowing that I don't have to go in and run around like an idiot trying to keep all the balls in the air while they pile on more and more work.

Maybe people are thinking what we should all start mobilizing to do... vote with our wallets. Trump is big box.

I drove by several stores this evening and all the parking lots were full. Part of that may be that we had ice over the weekend and most people didn't venture out at all. They may be making up for lost time.
