Cannabis Certification Program for Doctors to Be Offered in Puerto Rico
Academic Sciences of Puerto Rico (ASPR) in conjunction with the group Cannabis Doctors will offer a certification program for doctors, consisting of eight continuing education credits, to obtain the Health Department license and be able to recommend medical cannabis to close to 200,000 patients with conditions authorized to receive the treatment in Puerto Rico.
The curriculum is backed in its totality by the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Medical Sciences Campus and is offered by faculty experts, ASPR President John Reyes said. Our aim is to have the greatest number of certified doctors on the island so that this way, in a responsible and efficient way, they can respond to the thousands of patients who can benefit from consistent and quality treatment.
Reyes said the educational program, created with the objective of training doctors in Puerto Rico, not only emphasizes the history of cannabis in the health sector and its regulation in Puerto Rico, but also covers the components of the cannabis plant and the different supply and dosage methods. In addition, the courses are framed within the regulations identified in the Health Departments Regulation 8766.
Among the topics discussed in the certification program are the history of cannabis, cannabinoid dosages and methods, the use of cannabis for pain management and for neurological diseases, and the regulation of medical cannabis in Puerto Rico.
