I would have done even better in the election, if that is possible, if the winner was based on popular vote - but would campaign differently

Campaigning to win the Electoral College is much more difficult & sophisticated than the popular vote. Hillary focused on the wrong states!

Maybe then they will get it, that he always considered them all losers and just wanted their vote.

(16,104 posts)what he got for free from broadcast/cable news is estimated to be in the billions.
What Hillary got was a continuation of three decades of rightwing-generated smear and negativity, unrelenting right up to the final Comey letter.
The one thing we can count on now is Corrupt Trump and truth/fact will never cross paths.
This racist, sexist pig of a man is a serial liar. And advertisers love it!

(48,955 posts)This is what consumes his attention? This is what he is paying primary attention to? The GOP in congress are poised to start passing legislation that will harm millions of Americans and this is what he is paying attention to? There was an assassination, and multiple attacks on civilians in multiple places in the world, and this is what he is paying attention to? Did you even go to the National Security briefing the day after the assassination and attacks?
Oh - I bet he is also obsessing on whether or not he can line up A-List celebrities to perform at his inauguration.

More than 2,900,000 voters preferred the other candidate.
No one likes you Donnie.
You have no real friends, just sycophants and boot lickers.
I don't like anything about you, and the sad thing is neither do you!
It must suck to wake up every morning next to a money grubbing illegal alien and then look in the mirror and HATE that thing staring back at you with bleary, bloated eyes and malice mixed with insecurity.
Just know this Donnie...no one likes you, not one. Fear does not equal respect and that which you seek - validation and respect - are beyond bluster and bullying. May your presidency be like sand in your mouth as you crave the water that will NEVER come...

He and the GOP couldn't win on the issues, so they counted on the novelty and starf#@&er factor.
And it worked.
Once he got into office, and enacted the GOP policies he hadn't talked about when running, he got unpopular FAST.
He had to flee out the back way from a graduation ceremony at a community college.
By the time he was up for re-election, he essentially ran as a corporate Democrat.
I don't think Trump will have that evolutionary option, but even righties will get pissed at him right quick.

(14,852 posts)I just hope that Democrats offer a return to stronger welfare and low-cost education programs instead of more pandering to the wealthy.
If this country survives Trump, the cynic in me says that people will be so desperate for a change that they'll vote for an old-time "moderate Republican" who calls himself/herself a Democrat.
yurbud
(39,405 posts)they demand absolute obedience on their agenda and the only deviation from it they allow for popular opinion is delay not giving it up, hence the bipartisan attacks on Social Security, Medicare, and the like.
Dems have a hard time radically improving those programs, and can at most delay or slow the privatization/cannibalization of them.
If they propose bold action, they will face fierce opposition even from within their own party, ridicule in the press, and a well-funded primary opponent.
When a progressive manages to overcome those obstacles and looks about to hold onto their seat (or win one for the first time), suddenly the establishment pays a lot of attention to "independent" candidates.
That happened to Ned Lamont when he beat Lieberman in the Connecticut primary, and Mike Bloomberg cleared his throat about running for president if Bernie won the Democrat nomination.
But as Lamont did at least when his primary and Bernie came very close to winning the presidential nomination, in the latter case, in spite of a near complete news blackout.
The Democratic Party has to decide if they will represent the people who vote for them or lose those people to some new party to their left, and join the GOP in handcuffing themselves to a dying demographic of the very wealthy.
