Nigel Farage Called a Disgrace for Remarks About Berlin Attack

The smiling asshole gets his due. What a day.

LONDON — Blunt speaking made Nigel Farage, a former leader of the populist, right-wing U.K. Independence Party, one of Britain’s best-known politicians and it helped him persuade Britons to vote to quit the European Union.

But after accusing Brendan Cox, the husband of the murdered British lawmaker Jo Cox, of supporting an extremist organization, Mr. Farage faced possible legal action on Wednesday, as well as questions about his judgment.

(snip)

In a statement, Hope Not Hate said that Mr. Farage had “launched an outrageous attack” on the group, on Mr. Cox “and by association on everyone who believes in Hope Not Hate.”

“Our lawyer has just sent Farage a letter demanding he retracts and publicly apologizes or we will begin legal proceedings against him,” it said.

Well, orange one, what do you think of your UK BFF now?

The dispute began when Farage sent a tweet blaming the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, over Monday evening’s lorry attack on a Christmas market in Berlin, in which at least 12 people died. “Terrible news from Berlin but no surprise,” he wrote. “Events like these will be the Merkel legacy.”

Cox replied, accusing Farage of “blaming politicians for the actions of extremists”. He added in his tweet: “That’s a slippery slope Nigel.”

Asked about the exchange soon afterwards, while appearing on LBC, Farage accused Cox of links to extremism via Hope Not Hate, one of three charities supported by a foundation set up in the name of his late wife.

Farage said: “Well, of course, he would know more about extremists than me, Mr Cox. He backs organisations like Hope Not Hate, who masquerade as being lovely and peaceful, but actually pursue violent and undemocratic means.”

Jo Cox was, of course, murdered by an extremist for her political views, which opposed Farage. Farage, knowing that her murder can just as easily be called 'his legacy' as the Berlin ones belong to Merkel, decided to do a Trump - just attack your opponent without regard to truth or evidence.
