start deciding how to minimize the damage of a Trump presidency.

I'm not sure if I've seen your posts. Perhaps if they didn't get much response they got lost on the stream. So much going on lately it's hard to keep up.

I'll try and keep an eye out for them. Would like to see more discussion of solutions and actions.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Years!

And because I think too many feminists and POC have ceded too much territory online to white men, both conservative and liberal.

And if our voices are not heard our issues will continue to be ignored.

Since the election I'm not finding so much support for my posts with ideas about moving forward. I'm as angry about the situation as anyone, but lately there seems to be almost nothing but venting. Venting is OK. But it's not enough. I did submit a post asking about other sites. Not to drop out of DU, but to get some of that other input.

When you work with the public, you have to stay neutral. DU gives me an outlet to voice my opinion.

At first it was for community; having lived my life in hard red regions, it was a relief to find like-minded people. Of course, at that point, I was a moderate at DU. Interestingly enough, over the years, without ever having changed my positions on issues or my political outlook, I'm now the despised left-wing. I liked DU better when it self-identified as left-wing.

Over time, I showed up to keep up with people I'd met and enjoyed chatting with. I discovered that DU was not a fount of political integrity, and that we weren't so like-minded after all. For a long time, I still tried to have political conversations; to listen to people, consider their pov, and respond thoughtfully.

Occasionally I still do that, but not often. 2016 has broken whatever respect I had left for mainstream DU. As a matter of fact, I went from having zero people on ignore to having 76 people on ignore, and 15 of the most common terms in my trash can, including Obama, HRC, Clinton, Hillary and Trump. That doesn't mean they don't keep showing up anyway, but I don't see as many of them. I'm still interested in talking about issues on the rare occasion that it happens without dragging the rest into it.

I still like to keep up with the people here I actually have political respect for. So I check in once a day or so.

and that group of folks and their talented, generous spirit is what keeps me coming back.

There are a number of posters here who have turned into more than anonymous on-line friends
for me. I'm hoping that some of the NC locals will get together in person some time soon so that
we can take what started out as camaraderie regarding political opinions on an impersonal message board to another level.

I've visited once or twice since the election, but find it more closed around a few "identity" issues and very much an echo chamber.

I've been a member since 2004, used to give quite a bit of money, but when I ran for office in 2012 and looked for some needed DU support this here well was pretty much dry. 2016 when I saw the danger of sticking with Hillary and posted about it, I started to get hidden now and then, and saw the writing on the wall.

I used to check in every day, but now very rarely.

be myself. Facebook and its right wing nuttery doesn't grab me. I used to post on Twitter quite a bit, but that was before people who know me IRL started following me with the unspoken expectation that I would post as they saw fit (I am from Georgia, so that should be explanation enough).

I was on another forum where right-wingers were predominant. As Drumpf kept advancing towards the Republic nomination, I had to find another outlet before my head exploded.

Thank goodness for the DU. A lot of good people here.

I love this place. Even if some percentage of posters are artful-dodger trolls it still shines.

It's been an interesting evolution. Democratic Underground is a character in my third novel.
