I always found it interesting the film was shot in the Fort Bragg, California area, but the setting was supposed to be a New England community, so they had to shoot the morning oceans scenes in the evening and the evening ocean scenes in morning to place the sun in the right area.

I LOVE this scene. In fact, I love the whole movie & the fact it's real Russian they're speaking, not made up language. Apparently Theodore Bikel, who plays the Captain, grew up in a Russian-speaking community.
