Thought I would put this up here to see if it catches on.
2016 sucked. Bad.
A lot of the same reasons for many of us but others might have different stories as to why this year cant go away fast enough.
What makes you say that this year can go #%$@#$ itself?
For me it started with the death of my little brother, dealing with his passing, his service, a possible lawsuit.
In the middle of the year because of the grief and the stress and my state of mind it manifested itself into a physical condition which caused me to have to quit my job to heal.
Prince was emotional. One of my biggest childhood stars poof gone. That with my brother made me start questioning my own mortality and how much I missed the past.
Obviously the election. I mean really WTF america?
The minnesota vikings starting off 5-0 then taking a huge dump the rest of the season.
Finally to end off the year I got to put my kitty of 17 years to sleep. The right thing to do for sure but what a kick in the balls.
What about you? Was it the obvious stuff that made you hate this year? Was it something else? Something personal maybe you havent wanted to talk about?
All I know is that 2017 could get worse but its going to have to make a real effort to do so.

(4,826 posts)A LOT bad happened in 2013-2015 and there was so much going on then that it didn't have a chance to sink in and hit me. Until things slowed down this year. Then it could all hurt.
Then there was the election. UGH. Still hurts.
And as a Vikings fan... I'm used to disappointment but I'd rather they just sucked all season.

(9,258 posts)No warning at all, or maybe he was so stressed from his job that he didn't tell anyone he wasn't feeling well. DH's only sibling, 2 years younger. You're not supposed to bury your little brother.
He was a proud liberal who despised Trump with a passion and didn't live long enough to vote against him. Nov. 9 his wife was so upset she said she was glad Matt was gone so he couldn't see this.
I don't see how, but 2017 HAS to be better.

(3,788 posts)My husband's was caught very early thank god. He has kidney issues and his new nephrologist wanted another biopsy to compare to one he had a few years ago and they happened to find it. My mom is doing good.

(3,702 posts)We have had over $5000 in vet bills, $3000 in car repair bills, currently we have had a week long saga over pipes that froze burst, plumbers, carpenters etc (our landlord has been great tho).
Oh and that ass hat Trump is the president elect, Russia hacking, FBI bull shit, the rise in hate crimes
Prince fucking died (and Alan Rickman, and David Bowie, and now George Michael and so many others)
Fucking 2016 needs to burn in hell

(17,042 posts)On November 3rd due to liver disease. He was on a transplant list, made it all the way to #1 until he caught meningitis in the hospital. He was so sick this past year and any hope we had diminished within days of finding out about his infection.
2016 will always remind me of that fact. He passed away while I'll held his hand. I'll never be the same.

(5,126 posts)Uncles, cousins, friends... most to cancer. Fucking cancer. The election. 2016 has been a year like none that I have known. Still, I am of mixed emotion... there were births, birthdays, milestones, cousins with opioid addictions that got clean, new job, and my immediate family is okay (there is a pending divorce that hurts those I love). It has been a year of ups and downs, totally bipolar. I don't like it. I don't like the loss, I don't like the uncertainty and I don't like the diminished hope for our country.

(46,179 posts)had two very high points which I am clinging to: the birth of my grandbaby and the incredibly inspiring Sanders revolution, which sparked the first true hope I've had since my gullible youth.
The rest? It sucked.
The bazillion celebrity deaths, including so many of my generations icons.
The fucking primaries and the Democratic Party's stubborn insistence on identity politics, establishment power, and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Donald Fucking Trump and the global humiliation of the United States of America.
The suicide attempt of a student directly related to the legal abuse enacted by his parents.
There's more, but the above is enough.

(34,059 posts)The last two were diagnosed near the end of 2015 - but getting them in remisison took significant amounts of energy during 2016.
Too busy to do to take time off from treatment - so I worked a minimum of 60 hours a week throughout. Stinks.

(7,612 posts)plus the U.S. losing its collective mind and electing Chief Tweeting Bull as leader of the free world pretty much ruined 2016 for me. The only bright spot I can think of in this year is my Atlanta Falcons winning the NFC South title.

(7,951 posts)A car accident on April 19th in which my car was totaled.
Much sadder, of course, my mother passing away on May 1st.
I hated everything about this year-turning 60 didn't help.
The election and the continuing 24/7 Trump clown show.
2017 doesn't look promising either-and I refuse to watch the coronation.

(583 posts)except for election night, 2016 was a very good year for me.
I left a job I could not stand anymore, took the summer off, and started a great new job in September.
Bought 2016 harley limited touring bike in April, the toy i always wanted.
Made my final mortgage payment in January, 15 year note payed off in 12 years.
Wife left a great job at one company, started an even better job at another company, now makes more than I do. ( this is why i was able to take the summer off)
Daughter got engaged to a great guy
Then election night came, I was shocked at what I saw happening and was quite upset for a time after. It is what it is, no point in letting it affect your life any more than it has to. All in All I'm a very lucky man and grateful for my family and my life.
I am very optimistic about 2017.

(107,881 posts)However looking back on 2016 I have to say this year sucked ass.
I lost my youngest brother to ALS earlier this year. Though we knew this was coming it's still weird to think he's no longer around.
He was 51. Unfortunately his oldest daughter is the only adult among his four children. His widowed wife is not the most stable person so I often worry about the rest of his kids.
And of course there's the cluster fuck disaster of an election this November. I don't think I've ever seen a more incompetent and immoral group of leaders in my lifetime.
With them in charge it's doubtful 2017 will be any better.

(7,596 posts)But I was forced to move from a city I enjoyed living in to one which isn't growing on me and probably never will. It's full of Trump supporters, it's hard to for me to get around (the layout isn't exactly friendly to people who don't drive cars), there isn't a whole hell of a lot to do here, I don't know anybody, and I have zero social life to speak of. My life is incredibly dull and uneventful at the moment and it's depressing.
