I fear too much attention is being paid to Trump. Trump is the distraction...

Trump is terrible make no mistake about it. I am not proposing that we go easy on him or give him one inch. But lets face it as powerful as the office of the president is, it's those he appoints and those in power in the house and senate that at the end of the day will end up doing the majority of the damage. Trump is an entertainer and a crude, crass used car salesman of a businessman. He doesn't know how to do anything else. He operates on a principal of unpredictability. Keep your opponent on their feet by being as outrageous as possible, keep them guessing, and swoop in while they are infighting to grab something for yourself. In this sense he's kind of a scavenger feeder, an opportunist, something of a vulture.

But when it comes to the yet to be sworn in government there is also a risk that he's going to act as a shinny bit of distraction, while the real robbers do their work behind the scenes. Let's face it most republicans of the older ilk are supporting Trump against their own personal sense of taste, many have had to hold their noses to support the guy. They detest the man almost as much as liberals do. But in him they also realize they have yet again been given carte blanche so long as they play their cards right and pretend to support the little shit. I say yet again because they had similar opportunities under Bush, Reagan etc, this time they are set to do even more damage.

The danger is that Trump may serve also to act as a bit of a media screen from the really important news. If Trump doesn't start a war himself then the next danger is that the media and populous will be transfixed by his outrageous tweets, international snafus, racist remarks, and all round disgusting crudeness while the house and senate and others "quietly" walk away with social security, workers rights, and social equality gains. Certainly they won't be able to do so entirely in the dark, but we all know how stupid and blind the media purposefully chooses to be and how large an effect that has on the population at large.

Seen this?

'How to Help Trump, by George Lakoff

'Without knowing it, many Democrats, progressives and members of the news media help Donald Trump every day. The way they help him is simple: they spread his message.

Think about it: every time Trump issues a mean tweet or utters a shocking statement, millions of people begin to obsess over his words. Reporters make it the top headline. Cable TV panels talk about it for hours. Horrified Democrats and progressives share the stories online, making sure to repeat the nastiest statements in order to refute them. While this response is understandable, it works in favor of Trump.

When you repeat Trump, you help Trump. You do this by spreading his message wide and far.'>>>

Not en mass as it would need to be. Because he simply plays to human nature. It's human nature to gossip about the obscene, the seemingly impossible, the pornographic.

We need to hold the media's feet to the fire, and hopefully Dem leadership will provide media-worthy opposition to this nightmare administration and congress.

Good post, Locut0s!

Then we will go to work on the Hoosier because he was also installed by Putin.
In the meanwhile, we nominate Gerald Ford to be the new Veep and heir apparent to POTUS.

Stroke his ego and he's apt to side with the Democrats. It's an embarrassment we will have a POTUS with the mentality of a 6 year old, but that's where we are. Pence, on the other hand, is very rigidly far right. He'll be happy as a clam to sign bills outlawing contraception and anything else that doesn't fit his radical, faux Christian ideology.
