Destroy medicare and social security, so that Seniors will have to get reverse mortgages and then eventually sell their homes at depressed rates. Then the banks can swoop in and pick up real estate for a song. While property is in the reverse mortgage phase, banks can bundle the mortgages into some oddball product and make bets on them. So if you see Granny and GrandPa living under an overspass with all their worldly belonging in a shopping cart, you'll know why.

(19,060 posts)The very idea of retirement offends Republicans. Put seniors to work! Work until you drop dead and they can drag you off the factory floor and burn your body for fuel.

(7,394 posts)Not. I'm reminded of Tuchman's 'Distant Mirror' detailing the slow roasting of a wealthy knight on an actual spit by his finally-had-enough peasants.
Surely there won't be a lashback. Surely hoards of disenfranchised unemployed won't target wealthy Republicans. Surely their security services and automated protection grids will prevent any justice from being done to them as they continue to leech every other human being's life force.
Nooooo, no blowback at all. Sheep into the pen. Wealth makes might makes right. Yup, it's all downhill from here. People just buckle under and stay there. It's a fact of history.
I think they're all going to get roasted on the metaphorical spit before history is through with them.

(95 posts)In a letter to his brother Newton, President Eisenhower wrote the following:
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas.4 Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
Let's hope that Ike is right and his prediction comes true. To see just how far the Republican party has drifted away from Eisenhower's Republican party take a look at the party's planks in the 1952 and 1956 election.

(10,252 posts)Privatize everything that isn't nailed down. Health insurance, retirement savings, military, roads, prisons, farm and garden seeds, post office, schools. Rake 30% off the top for "administrative costs" and $20 million per year bonuses for CEOs.
