Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is scheduled to travel to Mar-a-Lago on Friday to meet with incoming White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon, POLITICO has learned.

Miller, a fiery figure in Texas politics, has long been considered a contender for agriculture secretary, one of the last remaining Cabinet positions. He had been invited to meet with Priebus and Bannon at Trump Tower, but the location was recently changed to Mar-a-Lago, according to a source close to Miller.

Miller is up against another Texan, former Texas A&M University President Elsa Murano, for the top spot at USDA. Transition officials said Murano, a Cuban-American who served as U.S. agriculture undersecretary for food safety during President George W. Bush's first term, is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago this week.
