in general. They believe they will be exempt from cuts to services, because they are special. AKA, white. I have a family member who has 2 grown kids on SSDI. IMO they do need it, one has a heart condition and will eventually need a transplant. The other had both his legs crushed in an accident, he is lucky to be able to walk. But the Mexican guy down the street in a wheelchair is bilking and mooching off the system because apparently he could have a job. So they vote republican to make those moochers pay their fair share. They don't consider themselves moochers because they really need it. I tried telling them that trump will lay waste to these programs across the board, they not only denied it, they dug in their heels.

I plan on thoroughly mocking them when the republicans that they love so much accomplish what they have been chomping at the bit to do for decades. These plans were not secret, the R's have been trying and promising to do this. I will let them know they are getting exactly what they voted for, shut up and suck it up.

relatives (I grew up with the kids) and I don't have one iota of empathy for them. They knew this and voted republican every election. I just smile and say...I hope you get everything you voted for. For some reason that makes them upset, go figure.

But then I would miss out on the chance to remind them that they knew what he was, defended it and are now surprised that he and Republiklans promised. I plan on being there every step of the way reminding them that they saw who he is and said, Yup, that's my guy.

I'm telling you, when I say I hope they get everything they voted for, the expression on their face is priceless. I say it with the same inflection as "bless your heart." Noticeably feigned concern.

I have a gay brother that they claim to adore. They didn't care enough about him to consider how their votes would annul his marriage and other civil rights. You would think they would have since they went to his wedding. My brother has stopped talking to them and I don't blame him. They asked me why and I let them have it with both barrels. They said it was not true, trump would not do that. Even when told the facts. Trump said he would consider anti-gay SC justices and has at least 2 on his list to fill the vacancy. His picks for his cabinet and heads of agencies are very anti-gay. and so on.

You know what the general reply is? Time will prove I am right and it is his problem if he lets a vote come between us. Yes, it is my brother's fault for not wanting to speak with people who actively voted for a man that will allow his rights to be legislated away. Who voted for a man that encouraged aggression against him and many other minorities. You can't take that back. They weren't conned or stupid. None of the trump voters were.

Stories like ours, with families being driven apart over the Fuhrer-Elect's hate-filled bigoted policies, are prolly more commonplace than people imagine.

I don't remember ever feeling this way after an election. Even when bush won via a SC appointment. Everyone is handling it differently.

When the million-pound shithammer they voted for swings down on their pointy little noggins, that's a good time to remind them of the Democratic platform, and how Democrats are the party for them. Yeah, they're all grrrr mad! about Obamacare, until they start getting coverage denials for pre-existing conditions again. But remind them that it was the Republicans who hated Obama so much that Republicans sacrificed their health and well-being.

Acknowledge that they have the right to be mad, just that they should be sure they're mad at the right people. It wasn't Democrats who said they didn't deserve to live.

At the very least we would have gotten universal health care under Truman. Unlike social security and other New Deal programs it was opposed by southern Democrats who didn't want to share their hospitals with darkies.

Called me complaining about her older brothers and sisters health problems and how rough it is getting older. She was quite upset with me when I told her they'd all need to find a new way to pay the medical bills since Medicare and SSN were about to be taken away because of her vote.

In fact I remember one phrase in particular, "I should not be shamed for how I voted"

My response was, "Usually, that would be right. Not this time."
