Mar-a-Lago sold tickets to New Years Eve party with Trump

The private club owned by the president-elect sold hundreds of tickets to the party the Trump family will attend.
By MADELINE CONWAY and KENNETH P. VOGEL 12/30/16 03:46 PM EST Updated 12/30/16 06:14 PM EST

Mar-a-Lago, the pricey private resort in Palm Beach, Florida, sold hundreds of tickets at more than $500 a piece to an annual New Year’s Eve extravaganza planned for Saturday night that will feature a very special guest: the president-elect of the United States of America and his family.

Saturday’s formal event is scheduled to include a cocktail hour in the resort’s living room and patio area, followed by dinner and dancing until 1 a.m. in its grand ballroom to live music performed by the band Party on the Moon, according to Sean Spicer, Trump’s incoming White House press secretary.

Spicer, on a Friday morning conference call with reporters, said the party is already “sold out” with more than 800 people scheduled to attend, including actor Sylvester Stallone and music producer Quincy Jones, in addition to Trump, his wife, incoming first lady Melania Trump, and their son Barron Trump.

Incoming White House Director of Strategic Communications Hope Hicks rejected criticisms that Mar-a-Lago was selling access to the president-elect.“The transition is not concerned about the appearance of a conflict,” she said. “This is an annual celebratory event at the private club, like others that have continued to occur since the election. Additionally, the president cannot and does not have a conflict.”

If it is significantly higher, it is a clear example of self dealing.

Last year's tickets did not sell access to a president-elect for the profit of that same president elect.

It is a big deal.

then there is not a difference just because the PEOTUS owns the place. Last year's tickets clearly could not sell access, as there was no PEOTUS. If the prices are similar, then nothing extra is being sold.

If however, the prices were significantly less, as they probably were, this is a clear indication of selling access. If they are the same, then they clearly NOT selling access.

It's an objective measure, not clouded by bias.

hold his parties at a place he doesn't own or else he's going to be accused of selling access. Youknow like he accused the Clinton Foundation? This is far worse .

than a certain candidate taking $250k a pop for a 20 minute speech to Wall Street banks?

How is this any different than holding fundraisers from multi-millionaires at $30k, $40k, $100k per plate while ignoring the normal Joe in Wisconsin and Michigan?

How is this any different from a certain foundation accepting millions of dollars in donations from foreign governments, which have significantly dried up?

Personally, I see no difference at all. Both parties do this. To hold one responsible while not knocking the other simply because they have a D after their name is kinda, I don't know, hypocritical?

Note to jury if alerted on, I'm not defending anyone. Simply pointing out this is SOP for both parties.

Sure you can make any comparison you like, but
the fact of the matter is that it's Trump who is selling
out the Presidency right at this moment. It's not right
when anyone does it and the fact that anyone could do
it or has ever done it does not suddenly make it okay
that Trump is doing it. He's con and a liar and a
national embarrassment. Simply pointing that out too.

Despite the GOP's efforts to claim otherwise, the man in the Oval Office is still President Obama.
