If I were called upon to read from the Bible at the Ignoration, this is the passage I would choose:

Proverbs 16:18 King James Version (KJV)

18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

That's all. Then I'd walk away.

What? The crowd wants an encore? Okay, the whole chapter:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+16&version=KJV

Wait! You also get:

16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
....

19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

I'd make sure to get paid in advance, and that the check had already cleared.

PS: This is not from Two Corinthians.

I wish I knew who, as I'd give him credit. Instead, I'll have to settle for thanking myself:

Thank you, mahatmakanejeeves, for coming up with "Ignoration"! Before that: SAD! Now: hope!

Proverbs 6:12-16 English Standard Version (ESV)

12 A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech,

13 winks with his eyes, signals with his feet, points with his finger,

14 with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord;

15 therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

16 There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him:

17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,

19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

49 “‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen."

and a few from the sermon on the mount in Matthew:

5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven.
6:1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Of course, the admonition is useless when the soul has already been gone for a long, long time.

1. An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends
and against all sound judgment starts quarrels.

2
Fools find no pleasure in understanding
but delight in airing their own opinions.

3
When wickedness comes, so does contempt,
and with shame comes reproach....

5
It is not good to be partial to the wicked
and so deprive the innocent of justice.

6
The lips of fools bring them strife,
and their mouths invite a beating.

7
The mouths of fools are their undoing,
and their lips are a snare to their very lives....

12
Before a downfall the heart is haughty,
but humility comes before honor....

23
The poor plead for mercy,
but the rich answer harshly.

Matthew 25:40 - "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

or my all time favorite, the parable of the Good Samaritan. One needs to know that the Samaritans were despised by the Jewish pharasees and high priests, because they were part of the lost tribes that went native, adopted idols, married with Philistines, didn't keep the Sabbath, ate unclean foods, went uncircumcised, and were rebels and smugglers.

Luke 25-37 "25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

I'm not even a Christian; I'm a Buddhist. But I know more about the teachings of Jesus that Trump has ever bothered to learn.
