Who will be elected President in 2020?

Last edited Tue Jan 3, 2017, 02:30 AM - Edit history (1)

Just another silly poll. In the unlikely event he gets primaried in 2020, I threw in Nikki Haley.

but I keep wondering if that was the last election this country will ever have. I see Trump and his cabinet as a dictatorship and is there actually TRUE votes in a dictatorship? Am I the only one that feels that way?

I think the more likely scenario is that there will still be elections, but they will mean next to nothing, and will simply exist for show. Many authoritarian regimes operate that way, even maintaining a token "opposition" party, to give the illusion of democracy.

I think this country is entering an entirely new period in its history, and it's got me frankly terrified.

It's true that would-be power grabbers will do everything it can to steal the next elections, but they have not destroyed our republic yet.

I don't expect Trump to make it through 4 years. I expect at some point, even the republicans will have had enough and force him to resign "for health reasons" under the whispered threat of impeachment, probably shortly after the midterms.

Having said that, I think whatever scandals are to come will probably taint Pence in the eyes of republican voters as well, so I don't expect he'd be in a position to run in 4 years either.

In any case, I voted for Booker.

Chances are that he will be perfectly satisfactory to them in that regard. He can also serve as a distraction with his outrageous antics, while the 'pukes quietly undo the last century of social progress in this nation.

The 'pukes may be quite happy to have him as their figurehead.

Many establishment Republicans hate him just as much as we do. They will be looking for any opportunity to impeach him and let Mike Pense take over.

However it is wise not to underestimate Trump. Far too many politicians and people have done so. He seems to have an unusual ability to survive. No other candidate in our history could have acted like Trump and insulted so many people and ethnic groups and still manage to win the race for President.

Some candidates are said to have Teflon coating as nothing sticks to them. Trump has something even better than Teflon coating. Perhaps he is ceramic coated or maybe he in Ti-Cerama coated (ceramic reinforced with titanium) like the Gotham Steel cookware advertised on TV.

that Michelle Obama will throw her hat in the ring. It will take at least a year or two, but after witnessing the mess Drumpf and the Republicans will make, she just might change her mind.

And the lack of holding previous office shouldn't work against her!

...of Newsom, Booker and Castro would be nice. But it's way too soon... Odd to see Bernie on the list but not Hillary; if we went there, I'd say Hillary would win again (she did win the vote and it was not close). If Warren uses these four years wisely, she could position herself very well. The Democrats have great people, young and old - contrary to the media narrative!

to see what both of them do over the couple of years and where they are at that time. Of course, Elizabeth can be counted on to make the most of her new position on the Armed Services Committee, whatever her personal goals.

I expect younger people will have developed national names by then, though. After all, while the Republican caucuses are "rockin' and rollin'," as Ryan puts it, our people are going to be forming working alliances with a few Republicans while trying to kicking the feet out from under the rest at every opportunity.

Trump won't do much damage in 2 years, indeed, his "reforms" will likely lead to a 21000-22000 DOW by then. Even by 2020 his reforms will only hurt the little guy. Look at Bush, the shit didn't hit the fan until he was almost out of office and it took almost 8 years to just normalize. That's what you are looking at.

Personally I would like the 2020 ticket to stay away from the northeast and the west coast. Democrats don't exactly have a track record for successful candidates from that neck of the woods.

I'd like to see Amy Klobuchar as VP.
