The collusion between the campaign and the Kremlin

is, in my mind, the far more serious issue. Having material that can be used to blackmail an American president is very serious. But, colluding with a foreign government, one we have a hostile relationship with, in order to undermine an election is treason. Treason is a word I think we may begin to hear in the coming days.

"Russia nonsense"? I'm a pretty balanced, rational, measured person when it comes to trying to see both sides of an issue. I agree with the outlines of your sentiment. But your post seems like a well written Russian troll wrote it.

None of this is "nonsense".

Should we take a measured tone? Should we demand more evidence? Should we question everything we hear?

Yep.

So should you.... with your dismissal of the seriousness of this moment.

We have no idea what all the facts are, but it's clear there is nothing "nonsense" about this Russia story, even given what we only know so far.

Amazing that you are so concerned with our discussing shocking intelligence reports presented to the highest officials in America.
Wonder what danger we are in- Retaliatiion by Trump and his team? No. America is in danger of upended foreign policy that would undermine democracies around the globe and corruption of the highest degree due to Trump taking power.

Hell of a lot more to these 35 pages of memos than leaked emails.

He is promising the most massive military buildup in US history. His instability, collusion with Russia and other unpredictable changing alliances and grudges has unforeseen ramifications for democracy and human rights around the world.

And Trump, knowing it would come out eventually tried to discredit the Intel communities to undermine their discoveries and to say their revelations are a p[product of revenge.

It won't work.

The news reports use these words: claims, allegations, not confirmed, potentially, not independently confirmed...
But here on DU, all these posts are running with it as though everything is proven already. I think we need to separate our wishes with what is actually the case *at this time* because nothing I can think of that we can do personally (ranting online, protests) is going to make an impact on how those in the Intel choose to deal with this.

One niggling thought is that if this release proves to be a plant, it will really destroy the credibility of our Intel branches such that nothing they come up with will be received with anything but smirks and there is much damage that can go on behind the scenes without fear of reprisal. Hopefully, this is an unfounded concern.
