"Restore our standing in the World" WTF are they talking about? I want the press to push back on

this meme. The right keep repeating it as if it's true but they are completely making it up.
Why are they allowed to keep making up stuff and no one calls them on it.
Watching the Tillerson hearing now and smug Ted Cruz said it many times. I am so sick of our media. They are the problem and money is their raison d'être.

ETA: you do bring up a good point and it's one that I will keep in mind for any discussions that crop up in my gop family.

this is the election where it became completely naked though.

Les Moonves even said, "It might be bad for the USA, but it's good for CBS"

United States should be. The people who are quoting this meme believe that the "real" America is conservative, Christian, generally white, straight. When they talk about restoring our standing in the world, they believe that having liberals like Obama representing America diminishes what America is "supposed to be." Sorry to use so many quotation marks, but I want to make it clear that I don't agree with this assessment.

if your idea of what America is supposed to be is so narrowly defined as to exclude liberals, women (in positions of power), non-whites (in positions of power), GLBT people, non-Christians, and so on and so forth, than it's very hard to make any headway with you. You can't really call them on it because the whole thing is based on fuzzy generalizations anyway (and because they are very good at deflecting in general).

charismatic candidate, then the left could have really by-passed the media and used social media. Bernie gave it a good run now the next person needs to follow his lead and by-pass the press and use all small donations and social media. This is a winning strategy. We need to get the power away from the monied interests and we can do it. Who will lead?
